On the first bend, we sighted a wafer-thin waterfall, and then on the second turn as we climbed, we witnessed a massive bloc of rocks on the river bed, and the river was virtually reduced to a trickle. From here on we continued to ascend and then leveled out to a crossing marking the dam (again similar to the one that we spotted in Hampta viz. Al project).
We were now driving on mud track and were amazed to see the barren landscape all around. The excessive blasting has the made area extremely dangerous - 100-meter high cliffs dangerously hovered around us for the most part of the journey, loose rocks slipping every now & then, waterfalls making driving conditions difficult, dirt and mud making visibility a huge issue

The excessive blasting has the made area extremely dangerous - 100-meter high cliffs dangerously hovered around us for the most part of the journey, loose rocks slipping every now & then, waterfalls making driving conditions difficult, and dirt and mud making visibility a huge issue. We passed through a couple of short tunnels - these were bolted at more than 300-400 places to ensure that the whole mountain does not collapse in a heap and block the way. But they have an alternate way.
It was close to 1.00 PM and we heeded his suggestion, but not before having a good 25-minute conversation with him. He shared with us the glorious history of the village (along with the devastating fire a few years ago that rocked almost half the village on the left bank), they being descents of mighty Aryan race - though he also mentioned some of the villages (especially old timers) trace their origins to Alexander and hence the place is also known as ‘Little Greec'.
I planned my trip with Kashmir Alpine Treks recently, and it has been a great getaway experience for us. We were a group of 5 girls and at first, we were reluctant to book our tour with a trip planner. But the team claimed to be a local travel planner which was promising enough for us to take that chance. They were very professional with their services and we had a very safe trekking experience.
The tour to explore the great alpine lakes trek was just an amazing chance to spend an adventurous vacation amidst the magnificent beauty of the Kashmir Valley. And the team of Kashmir Travels was efficient enough to make our tour memorable and comfortable. On this 8 days tour, we explored the dense forests of the valley along with the beautiful landscapes of the Sonamarg valley.
Kashmir is always referred to as the paradise on earth and exploring the snow-covered mountains on feet was a thrilling experience. I enjoyed it a lot and it was my memorable trek. The Kashmir great lakes trek was indeed a treat for the eyes. It was our second tour to Kashmir and every time this place leaves no scope to surprise us with its nature beauty.
I am a solo female traveler and did not encounter any problems or any hassle. The crew was amazing and fun to trek with. support is a very nice and humble man, He makes sure that everything is placed in the right order. It was a pleasure to meet him. All the people I met during the trek were very friendly. Wonderful trekking experience in Kashmir. The Naranag Gangabal Lake trek is one of the best I've accomplished.
Great Lakes Trek with Enormous Hospitality! I didn’t really imagine it until we were really on the trek. The Great lakes trek in Kashmir with Wasim was excellent. From good food, a great guide, and the rest of the crew on the trek, did not fall short with anything….
The hospitality of the KAT team was incredible. It's moments like this that you remember for the rest of your life because of the beauty of the mountains in Kashmir. We had the best guide you can have and along with Waseem to make the trip flow smoothly. Highlights for me were swimming in the Gangabal lake was something which made this trek the best ever.
