How to Reach 

By Air: 

➔ To reach Sar Pass Trek by air, you can take a flight to Bhuntar Airport, located near Kullu in Himachal Pradesh. 

➔ From Bhuntar, you can hire a taxi or take a bus to reach the base camp of the trek in Kasol. The airport is well-connected to major cities in India.

 

By Road: 

➔ To reach Sar Pass Trek by road, you can take a bus or hire a taxi from nearby cities like Delhi or Chandigarh to reach Bhuntar, which is the nearest town. 

➔ From Bhuntar, you can then proceed to Kasol, the base camp of the trek, by either bus or taxi.

 

By Train:

➔ To reach Sar Pass Trek by train, you can take a train to Joginder Nagar railway station, which is the nearest railhead.

Itinerary For Sar Pass Trek

1

Day 1 - Trek to Grahan Village | 5 Hours

Kasol

  • Meet our company representative in Kasol early in the morning. After a formal round of introduction with tripmates, the Team/Group Leader will share some instructions. After getting guidance, trekking will start.
  • Today you will trek from Kasol to Grahan Village. The trail passes through the lush green alpine meadows, forests and waterfalls.
  • Grahan Village, which is located at the height of 2347 m.
  • The trek is 9 km long and will take a total of upto 5 hours to complete. The beginning of the trek will take you through a dense forest of towering Pine trees, While trekking, you can also experience the aroma of Himalayan trees and plants which invade your senses. 
  • The marked trail will lead you to Grahan Nahal, after walking for a couple of hours on a relatively flat part of the trek.
  • From here onwards, the trek gets a bit steeper, and passes through groves of rhododendrons, blooming wildly in spring.
  • After reaching Grahan Village, enjoy your hard-earned lunch before you set out to explore the quaint little town and the surrounding areas. You’ll get taken in by the pleasantness of the townsfolk and the magnificent vistas of the surrounding mountains.
  • You will be camping in Grahan Village overnight. Enjoy a delectable dinner, around a cosy bonfire before heading to your tents for the night!

Day 2 - Trek from Grahan Village Mung Thach | 5 hours

Min Thach

Trek from Grahan Village Mung Thach | 5 hours

  • Rise with the sun to witness the glorious Himalayan sunrise! After an early breakfast,  start trekking towards Min Thach.
  • The trek will take about 4-5 hours to complete. The terrain of the trek starts with a relatively softer incline, which gradually sharpens into a steep climb. The path will take you through dense forests, and you will hear the sound of water flowing somewhere out of sight.
  • After trekking for a while, you will reach Min Thach. Upon reaching the campsite, relax for a while and feast your eyes upon the magical sunset.  
  • Enjoy the bonfire and your delectable dinner before lights out!

Day 3 - Trek from Mung Thach to Nagaru | 6 hours

Nagaru

  • Begin the morning with the glorious Himalayan sunrise! After a delicious breakfast,  get ready for the trek to Nagaru, located at an altitude of 3795 m!
  • The climb on this day becomes steeper and slippery due to the present snow. It is advised that you follow the instructions of your trek leader carefully before continuing. Do not forget to take adequate breaks along the way, they help you acclimatize better.
  • Upon reaching your destination, take in the sheer magnificence of the view of the sloping greens of Parvati Valley. The snow-capped mountains framing the scene will take your breath away! You can catch a glimpse of the quaint village of Manikaran, twinkling brightly!
  • Head into your tents after dinner as the next day is not far now!

Day 4 - Trek from Nagaru to Biskeri Thatch via the Sar Pass | 7 hours

Trek from Nagaru to Biskeri Thatch via the Sar Pass | 7 hours

  • Start the day early with a radiant sunrise and a gratifying breakfast! Today you will trek to reach the magnificent Biskeri Thatch.
  • The climb is steep and takes you through a thick carpet of glittering white snow! As you trek up the hill, take is the stunning vista of the Tosh Valley and the Sar Pass, clearly visible from where you stand!
  • As you reach the top, take in the absolute stillness of the mountains and the bird’s eye view of the valley below! From here, you have only the fun bit of the trek left - sliding through the snow!
  • You will slide down the side of the mountain for about a kilometre to meet the gentler slopes of the valley. From here, a walk of about an hour and a half will bring you to the Biskeri Thatch and your campsite for the night.
  • Revel in the magical sunset of the mighty Himalayas, have your dinner and head to your tents for the night!

Day 5 - Trek from Biskeri Thatch to Barshaini and Return to Kasol | 5 hours

Kasol

  • Rise at the crack of dawn to enjoy your final Himalayan sunrise of the journey! Enjoy your fulfilling breakfast, before you start the descent to Barshaini.
  • Start with a steep descent through a plot of land, followed by a trek through a dense forest. We will also cross a bubbling stream to reach the village Tulga. 
  • Take a short break at Tulga, and from here we reach Barshaini by crossing a bridge across the roaring River Parvati!
  • Take some rest at Barshaini to try to interact with the locals and if time allows you to explore the local culture before head-back to Kasol. You will reach Kasol late in the afternoon, as your journey with us concludes here. 
  • You have the rest of the day to explore Kasol and the surrounding areas at your leisure!

What is the best time to go for the Sar Pass Trek?

The summer months are generally considered the best time to go for the Sar Pass trek. This is the time when the wildflowers grow out in full bloom and the slopes of the mountains are covered in lush greens. The trip can be a lot of fun around September as well. The snow in winter months can make this trek slightly more dangerous - only undertake is then if you are up for the challenge! Generally, monsoon months should be avoided as the path becomes slippery and dangerous.

Do they have ATMs in Barshaini or Kasol?

While Kasol does have ATMs, they are often not in working condition. It is best to avoid any problems and just carry enough cash!

How to reach Sar Pass from delhi?

To reach Kasol Base Camp for Sar Pass Trekking, first, you have to reach Bhuntar from there you can board the Bus to Kasol, or you can hire a tourist cab from there.            
By Road:
If you want to reach by road, then you can board the Bus from ISBT Kashmiri Gate or Majnu Ka Tila bus stand. ISBT is for government buses, and Manju ka Tila bus stand is for private buses. There are several Volvo or deluxe buses available regularly to Bhuntar.  
 By Air:
From Delhi, Airport flights are available to Bhuntar Airport which is the only airport in the Kullu Manali region.
By Train:
Chandigarh is the nearest railway station to Kasol that is 310 km away then from Chandigarh journey will be continued by Bus.

I want to go on the Sar Pass Trek in December. Is it possible?

No, all the activities on this trek remain closed from December to till winter season ends. As this trek route is perched at the height of 13,850 feet above the sea level, this area receives heavy snowfall. All the trails are covered with thick snow and temperature remains in a subzero condition which is not suitable for trekking.    

Is Sar Pass Trekking possible in the month of August?

From July monsoon season starts and in the month of August this area receives heavy rainfall. There may be chances of landslides or rainstorms so this time is not suitable for trekking Sar Pass. 

Is May suitable for Sar Pass trekking?

Yes, from the month of May to June is the best time to trek in summers. The snow starts melting from the month of May. So there you can experience the seasonal flowers and plants which will be most amazing. During this time the weather remains pleasant and trekking conditions remain most suitable.

What kind of shoes are required for trekking at Sar Pass?

A pair of good quality trekking shoes required at this trek. Regular shoes are only for walking and running on the ground. This trek route is comprised of rocky trails and terrains so there only trekking shoes can provide you with better grip and stability.

Is Sar Pass trekking possible without a guide?

It will be the riskiest to trek on the Sar Pass without a guide. Here on this trek, you require an experienced guide who knows each trail and about the area very well. No, the network is only good at Kasol. Due to the high altitude, mobile networks do not work fine, and the connectivity is minimal.  

What kind of food will be served during trekking at Sar Pass?

The food will serve you nutritional quality, healthy and hygienic. For the trekking, abundant and vegetarian food will be the best. It provides you with energy and also it will be good for digestion. 

Is mountain water suitable for drinking?

Yes, mountain water is suitable for drinking. It contains minerals, and it comes bypassing the roots of plants & grass which work as a natural filter for the water. However, before filling your bottle, it will be best to ask from your Team/Group Leader. He will tell you exact spots from were without any fear you can fill your bottle. For safety, carry chlorine tablets to purify the water.

During the trekking, toilet tents will be pitched for boys and girls separately.

Is drinking and smoking allowed?

No, these activities are strictly prohibited during the trek. For five days you will be trekking at higher altitude areas where your body needs more oxygen so if you drink and smoke then there will be adverse effects on your health and it may lead to you in serious health condition. If anybody finds indulgence during these kinds of activities then immediately he/she will be banned from trekking and there will be no refund granted.
