Itinerary For Everest Base Camp Trek

1

Day 1 - Arrival in Kathmandu

Kathmandu

  • You will reach Tribhuvan International Airport and already witness the beautiful mountains and rivers from your flight.  
  • You will be picked up at Kathmandu airport.
  • You may hire a Sherpa to give you a brief orientation of the city

Day 2 - Kathmandu to Lukla, then trek to Phakding (2652m)

Lukla

  • After breakfast, you will take a flight again, this time to Lukla. The planes are generally small for these flights but the journey is panoramic. Once you arrive in Lukla, our representatives will receive you.
  • Soon, you will start your trek to Phakding. It is a simple trek for 3.5 hours. The view of Kusum-Kanguru will great you, while you are cross the short suspension bridge on your way and reach Phakding via Ghat village.

Day 3 - Phakding to Namche Bazaar (3440m)

Namche

  • Start early towards Namche,  at an altitude level of 3440m. After crossing the Dudh Koshi suspension bridge the walk is easy and pleasant. En route, you will view the mighty peaks of Thermasarkhu.
  • Further, ahead your trekking permits shall be checked at the Sagarmatha National Park.
  • You will be able to get a glimpse of Everest and Lhotse just before Namche, though not very clear.
  • Overnight stay at Tea House or Mountain Lodge. Total trekking will be 5 to 6 hours with a moderate difficulty level and a portion after Monjo will be strenuous.

Day 4 - Namche to Khumjung Village (12, 430 ft)

Khumjung

  • Today we will start a little late around 9 am and hike to Khumjung village.
  • Khumjung is the biggest village in this zone, situated at the foothill of sacred mountain Khumbila.
  • It will take 1 hour to reach the village from Namche Bazaar, first, we will visit Namche Museum which is famous for the Tenzing Norgay statue followed by an uphill hike to Syangboche airstrip and then follow a flat trail till the village.
  • Today’s view is the most beautiful as you can see a crystal-clear view of Mount Everest, Lhotse, and Amadablam.
  • You can visit the famous Khumjung Monastery which is famous for a Yeti Scalp, in the monastery they have a Scalp and local monks claim it a Yeti Scalp. You also visit Khumjung high school established by Edmond Hillary. Overnight in a Tea House / Mountain Lodge.

Day 5 - Khunjung to Tengboche (3860m)

Tengboche

  • Tengboche is a beautiful valley at an altitude level of 3860m.
  • If you are lucky you might see the Danphe peasant the national bird of Nepal or the Himalayan Thar.
  • With a gradual descent, you would reach the Imjatse River at Phungitenga which is at a height of 3250 meters.
  • After a strenuous walk from here for an hour, you would reach the religious Buddhist entrance which lies just before Tengboche.
  • The trek will be challenging 5 hours long.

Day 6 - Tengboche to Dingboche (4360m)

Dingboche

  • You will start an early trek towards Pheriche and proceed to the Imja Valley.
  • The trail starts through dense forests of birch, juniper, fir, rhododendron to reach Deboche with the magnificent view of Mt. Ama Dablam, Mt. Everest, Nuptse and Lhotse.
  • You will be able to see the Lobuche River and will pass through it and take a steep hike to Dingboche.
  • Overnight stay at Dingboche.
  • The trek will be about 6 to 7 hours while it will be moderate for the most part, there will be about 2 steep inclines.

Day 7 - Acclimatization day at Dingboche (4360m)

Dingboche

  • Today will be an acclimatization day. Dingboche has mini stone walls for agricultural purposes and beautiful tea houses.
  • A short hike will let you view the world’s three top mountain peaks, Mount Lhotse, Mount Makalu and Mount Cho Yu.
  • Overnight stay at a hotel.

Day 8 - Dingboche to Lobuche (4620m), 3 hours

Lobuche

  • You will start your trek towards Lobuche along the Khumbu glacier.
  • The initial part of the hike might be challenging from  Dughla Pass/ Thukla Pass and you pass through mountaineers’ memorials. rest here for a while and then proceed to Lobuche.
  • Douglas / Thukla Pass to Lobuche trail is almost flat.
  • Overnight in a Tea House/Mountain Lodge.

Day 9 - Lobuche (4940m) to Gorakshep (5170m) to Everest Base Camp (5364m) and back to Gorakshep

Gorakshep

  • This will be a complete glacier route. The trek to Gorakshep (5170m) and Everest Base Camp (5364m) is likely to be a moderate trek.
  • You must follow the lead Sherpa as the paths change every season due to the movement of the glaciers which will take you to  Khumbu icefall.
  • A base camp is a lively place during the high expedition season.
  • Stay overnight stay in Gorakshep.

Day 10 - Hiking to Kala Patthar (5645m) and descend to Pheriche (4940)

Kala Patthar

  • A strenuous 3-hour trek awaits you today but the destination will be worth every effort. The Everest from this point looks closer than you will imagine.
  • You will be able to see the Peak of Everest. Kala Patthar is the only place that will give you views of almost the entire high peak mountains of the Himalayan Ranges.
  • After Kala Patthar, it will be all descending from now on and the trek becomes very simple, though you have to be careful about the decline, and in another 3 hours you will reach Lobuche (4940m).
  • Rest and trek down to Pheriche

Day 11 - Pheriche to Namche Bazaar

Pheriche

  • Today’s trek will be a moderate trek till Namche Bazaar. We have a little uphill hike before Tengboche and after Phungi Thanga.
  • Overnight in a Tea House / Mountain Lodge

Day 12 - Namche Bazaar to Lukla (2800m) via Phakding

Lukla

  • Before you start the trek, you can visit the local markets of Namche Bazaar, famous for its local art and handicrafts and unique local delicacies.
  • Easy treks with several forests and waterfalls make your last day memorable. Enjoy with the sherpas and retire at Lukla.

Day 13 - Lukla to Kathmandu

Kathmandu

  • Flights to Kathmandu are usually early, hence wake up as you near the end of your trip. It’s a leisure day and you can explore the capital city. Feel free to customize your package in advance!

Day 14 - Departure

Kathmandu

  • Please check out by noon to catch your flight. Soak in the magnanimous views as you leave this country with beautiful memories.

What is the best time to undertake Everest Base Camp Trek?

March-June and September-November are the ideal time for the Everest Base Camp trek. The winter season though beautiful may not be suitable for all trekkers, considering the difficulty level of the trek, its long duration and the extremely high altitude!.

What is the level of fitness required for the Everest Base Camp trek?

For a challenging and long trek like the Everest Base Camp trek, you must do strength training and cardio at least 1 month prior to the trek and practice carrying 10-15kgs. Every trek requires optimum physical conditions.

How to stay healthy during the Everest Base Camp Trek?

While you are on the Everest Base Camp trek it is always advisable to eat veg food. The safest, healthiest option is to eat dal bhat (lentil soup with rice). Altitude sickness can affect sometimes so it is advisable to be careful on the trek, If there are any symptoms of headaches, dizziness, sleeplessness, loss of appetite and breathlessness take Diamox for treatment and immediately inform the instructor.

How to reach Nepal?

Take an international flight to Kathmandu Most of the flights are scheduled from major cities with daily flights from New Delhi and Mumbai. Flight schedules and availability are dependent upon the season and the weather in the region.

How many base camps are there on Mt. Everest?

There are 4 camps at different elevations before reaching the summit of Mount Everest Base Camp 5,335m (17,500ft). Camp 1 at an elevation of 6,000m (19,685ft) Camp 2 at an elevation of 6,400m (21,000ft) Camp 3 at an elevation of 7,200m (23,625ft) Camp 4 at an elevation of 7,950m (26,085ft). The Mout Everest Summit is at 8,850m (29,035ft).

What medicines should I carry for a high-altitude trek like the Everest Base Camp Trek?

All trekkers are required to carry a medical kit for the Everest Base Camp Trek. The medical kit should contain basic medicines like Crocin, Diamox, Avomine, Avil, Disprin, Combiflam, Norflox and Digene besides medical essentials like a crepe bandage, cotton, anti-septic liquid-like Dettol, band-aid, gauze and ORS packets. Besides these, all trekkers must carry any medicines prescribed to them personally by their physicians.

Can I bring luggage I do not require on the Everest Base Camp trek and leave it somewhere before the trek begins?

We have porter and storage services available. However, it is advised that you keep your luggage to a minimum.

Can we customize our Everest Base Camp trek?

Definitely! You are invited to chalk out an independent plan at your convenient time frame for any number of people. Cost for private trip is fixed on the basis of group size, trek area, duration and trek style.
