While it is the famous monsoon trek, we can do it in other seasons as well. This trek leads to Bhimashankar temple which is situated at a distance of 50km from the. The temple is located in the Sahyadri range.

Day 1 - Meet at Khandas Village

Khandas Village

owards Bhimashankar by the “Ladder route

  • 3 am- Reach khandas village.
  • 5:00 am- Morning! Freshen up and get ready for an exciting adventurous journey.
  • 6:00 am- Let's start trekking after a sumptuous breakfast. Start ascending towards Bhimashankar by the “Ladder route.”
  • 11:00 am- Enjoy the traditional beauty at Bhimashankar.
  • 12:30 pm- Let's have lunch.
  • 1:30 pm- Return journey through the Ganesh ghat route.
  • 6:00 pm- Reached to the base village.
  • 7:30 pm- Reached Karjat and back to home

How to reach?

  • The nearest station to the Bhimashankar trek is the Karjat station. From Mumbai's it's a journey of around 2 hours from Dadar Station. To reach Karjat station from Pune board a Mumbai bound train. It is a journey of 2 hours. For the people of  Nashik, it is a 3 hours journey. First, you need to board a train from Nashik to Kalyan and then Kalyan to Karjat.
  •  After reaching Karjat station you can board a sharing Tumtum or you can also board a public bus to reach base camp(Khandas village). You can also book private autos/ jeeps.
 
 

What are the different routes for Bhimashankar trek?

The first and foremost thing about any trek is to know the amount of distance we need to cover and how the trail is. The two routes of the Bhimashankar trek are:
Ganesh ghat
Sidhi ghat

Trek through Sidhi ghat is a difficult one but it takes less time than Ganesh ghat. It is a short distance trail, while Ganesh ghat trek takes comparatively more time but you can enjoy more scenic views on the way.

Ganesh ghat route 
The total distance to be covered in this route is around 8 km and the time taken is 4 hours. It starts from Khandas to Bhimashshanker via Ganesh temple.  The Ganesh ghat route gives you the taste of scenic beauty and it's of moderate level for the trekkers. This route is famous for its pleasing view that will delight you through the trail.

Sidhi ghat route
The distance to Bhimashshanker via Sidhi is 5 km. The distance of this trek is shorter when compared to the Ganesh ghat route but it is more rocky and tough among the two. We need to cover three mountains while going through the Sidhi ghat route and it is not for the beginners.
 

What are the places to visit during Bhimashankar trek?

Places to visit during the Bhimashshanker trek are:-

  • Lord Shiva Temple: A beautiful temple located in the wilderness of the lush green forests which is one of the famous Jyotirlingas among the twelve that attracts the mass of devotees. It is believed that Lord Shiva killed Rakshas Tripurasura after getting angry. This resulted in the origin of the River Bhima, which later named this place as Bhimashankar. The temple is the enticing combination of the various kinds of architecture. 
  • Gupt Bhimashshanker: Gupt basically means hidden. Gupt Bhim is a spot for River Bhima. It falls with a great swirling force over the linga being placed there. People believed that the original Shivalinga was found at this place and due to this it has a large number of devotees.
  • Shakshi Vinayak
  • Nag Phani popularly also known as Duke’s nose from where we can have the view of the Padhar and Peth fort.
  • Hanuman lake
  • Shekaru- rust-colored "The Giant Indian Squirrel" known as the state animal of Maharashtra.
