Buxa Fort is situated in the Buxa Tiger Reserve, Alipurduar district, West Bengal, at an elevation of 867 metres (2,844 feet). It is 30 kilometres (19 miles) from the nearest city, Alipurduar. The Bhutanese King used the fort to secure a section of the famous Silk Route, which connects Tibet to India via Bhutan.
The most common route is the Pagsamkha Path Trek, which begins in Buxa Fort, Buxaduar and ends in Raimatung via Aadma. Trekking in the Buxa hills requires an expert guide and an entry permit. The very lovely Dukpas village of Lapchakha is a 1.5 hour trek from Buxa Fort.
