Day 2 - Gangtok Excursion Tour: Hear the People of Baba Mandir Tell Their Stories

  • Get ready to explore some stunning locations near Gangtok after a satisfying breakfast.
  • Begin by visiting the well-known glaciated lake, Tsomgo Lake, also referred to as Changu Lake, where Buddhist monks used the lake's changing colors to forecast the future.
  • After that, you'll visit the well-known Baba Mandir shrine, where legend has it that Baba's spirit protects every soldier from the hostile, high-altitude Eastern Himalayas.
  • Later, you can pay an additional fee to visit Nathula Pass, one of the most important border crossings between India and China (closed on Mondays and Tuesdays).

Day 3 - Driving from Gangtok to Lachen and toward North Sikkim

  • As you travel along the North Sikkim Highway, you will pass a number of small waterfalls.

Day 4 - Lachen, Gurudongmar Lake, and Lachung: Discover Sikkim's pristine high altitude lake

  • Wake up to the view of the snow-capped mountains and enjoy a hearty breakfast (while staying there or while traveling there, depending on when you depart).
  • The Highest Altitude Accessible Lake, Gurudongmar Lake, was named for Guru Padmasambhava, who is believed to have passed through this region while visiting Tibet, so be sure to visit it first thing in the morning.
  • The lake is surrounded by snow-capped mountains and serves as a major source of the Teesta River.
  • Spend some time admiring the colors of the lake before beginning your return journey to Lachen, where lunch will be provided.
  • Next, take to the roads as you begin your journey to Lachung, one of Sikkim's most picturesque towns.

  • At 11,800 feet above sea level, this valley is well-known for its colorful primula, rhododendron, and other alpine flower blooms.
