Maharshi Devendranath Tgaore is the father of famous personality Rabindranath Tagore.This building built by Rabindranath’s father was named as Shantiniketan.And from here comes the named Shantiniketan and later the whole place is named as Shantiniketan.

Not just Shantiniketan, there are many other buildings which are associated with Tagore.  These buildings are named as Shantiniketan, Nutan Bari, Dehali and Amra Kunj. In these places main functions of school are held. This place is closed on Wednesdays. There is also a meditation or prayer place which is known as Chhatimtala. Chhatimtala place is under the Chhatim tree of Maharshi Devendranath Tagore. 

Then the next place is Upasana Mandir. This place is basically a prayer hall. In this hall prayers are offered with candles lit in the evening time. This prayer hall is made up of on all four sides from several coloured Belgium glasses with marble steps Then comes the Uttarayan Complex. This uttarayan complex has laid out garden houses and various buildings associated with Rabindranath Tagore. The places which are associated with Rabindranath Tagore are the places where he has lived like Udayan,Konark,Shyamli,Punascha and Udichi. 

The other place in the list is Rabindra Bhavan Museum. This museum is also called Bichitra houses. In this museum Tagore's original manuscripts, letters, documents, The Nobel Prize medallion, Plaques, Paintings, and Photographs etc. are placed. The next place is Amar Kutir. At Amar kutir all the different types of handicrafts are available. These handicrafts are in the form of cloth, leather batiks, handlooms etc.

 The architecture of this place is unbelievably amazing. The place is worth seeing. This place remains closed on wednesdays. This amazing place was built in 1961. The timing to visit this place is from 10:30 AM to 4:30 PM. By taking this tour to shantiniketan, you feel like you have entered into a whole new world of serenity.
