Netarhat, a hidden gem small hill station located in the Latehar district of Jharkhand. Located at an altitude of 3696 feet, it is home to some of the endangered species of snakes like python. It is also known as the ‘Queen of Chota Nagpur plateau. The hill station is covered with a thick dense forest of sal, mahua, kendu, Eucalyptus, pine, and pears trees. It was once the favorite destination of British officials during the summer season.
Known for its natural beauty, it is also home to the Betla National Park, where one can spot elephants, tigers, and many more. Netarhat with its abundance of nature is also rich in minor forest produce.
The slope station is secured with thick emerald blackwoods, rich forest, and grand rocks. The forest cover is so dense, with many waterfalls amidst the forest. This hidden jewel feels like an abode of nature.

To have a feel of more isolation from the place, one can explore the Surkai Ghaghri falls, one of the offbeat destinations near Netarhat. Located at a distance of 57km from Netarhat via state highway 9. Near surkai ghaghri falls, Tattapani hot water spring can also be visited, also believed to have medicinal values.
The weather in Netarhat is pleasant throughout the year. In summers, the temperature varies between 25 to 30 degrees centigrade. One of the best seasons to visit is during the monsoon, one can experience the lush green forest blushing even more. The winter season ranges between November to February with the temperature ranging between 8 to 12 degrees.
Netarhat does not have a railway station of its own. The nearest railway station is Lohardaga located at a distance of 85km, but Netarhat is well connected via roads. The nearest airport is Birsa Munda Airport, Ranchi located at a distance of 150km via Ghagra-Netarhat road.
One can also self-drive from Kolkata to Netarhat or book a rental cab, the distance between Kolkata to Netarhat is 550km via NH43 and 564k via NH19.
Even though the hill station is isolated from the busy city, but Netarhat has good accommodations like the Hotel Prabhat Vihar Deluxe, run by Jharkhand Tourism Development Corporation near the sunrise point, the Dak Bungalow hotel is also one of the accommodations available in Netarhat. One can also experience staying in the tent provided by the swiss cottage tent to have a different experience of accommodations.
One of the most beautiful places to visit in Netarhat, located in the Palamu district. The park stretches over an area of 979sq.km. It is rich in biodiversity and has a rich tribal heritage of the state. Betla stands as an acronym for Bison, Elephant, Tiger, Leopard, and Axis. Inside the park, there are two forts in the forest premise, making the park even more attractive. The park houses sal and bamboo trees. The southern part of the forest is dominated by sal trees whereas Bel Aegle marmelos dominate the northern part of the forest. Several waterfalls and lakes can be found inside the park.
Located at a distance of 4km from the hill station of Netarhat. River Ghaghri gives birth to two rivers namely Upper and Lower Ghaghri waterfalls. The waterfall is surrounded by lush green and dense forest. One can experience a cool fresh breeze any time of the day.
The second highest waterfall in Jharkhand, located at a distance of 10km from the hill station of Netarhat, amidst the dense forest. The fall originates from the river Ghaghri as it makes its way down the hill. The waterfalls from a height of 32ft while making its way through the jungle to find the base. The dense forest blocking the sun rays, one can notice the shadow of the dancing trees.
It is best known for its sunset point. The view from the Magnolia point is just breathtaking. The point is located in the vicinity of the Vindhya Hills. The story behind the Magnolia point goes back to colonial times when a British lady named Magnolia fell in love with a local but due to restrictions of the society committed suicide by jumping off the cliff.
The famous pine forest and the pear orchards are one of the best places to visit in Netarhat, which boosts the beauty of the Netarhat. One can trek through the forest, it is usually colder than the rest of the city. It offers a picturesque view of the forest.

The highest waterfall in Jharkhand with a height of 470ft and the 21st highest waterfall in India. It is located at a distance of 60km in the Latehar district of the Palamu division from the hills of Netarhat. The Lodh falls originates from the Burha river, a tributary of the Koel River. The unique feature of the waterfall is that it has multiple falls, falling from both sides of the hills, like a continuous pattern. The most interesting fact about the fall is that the depth of the fall is not yet known despite many attempts trying to measure the depth. The fall is surrounded by green lush forest and blue hills of Netarhat. It is also known as the Budha Ghag falls, because of the presence of the Buddha temple nearby the fall.
Located at a distance of 35km from Netarhat in the Gumla district of Jharkhand. Sadni falls originate from the River Sankh. The surrounding of the waterfalls is amazing with fancy woods and spouting streams. It used to be a hub of diamond mines in India, where some of the rare minerals were mined. The height of the falls is 200ft and the fall resembles a snake sliding down the hills.
