The Kaaba is a cube-shaped building located in the center of the Great Mosque of Mecca in Saudi Arabia. It is considered the holiest site in Islam and is the destination of the annual Hajj pilgrimage. The Kaaba is approximately 50 feet tall and is constructed of granite and marble. It is draped in black cloth with Arabic calligraphy and gold embroidery, and surrounded by a large courtyard where pilgrims gather during the Hajj. According to Islamic tradition, the Kaaba was built by the Prophet Abraham and his son Ishmael, and dedicated to the worship of the one God. The Kaaba serves as the direction of prayer (qibla) for Muslims all over the world, who face it during their daily prayers.
