Lantau Island

Lantau Island is a picturesque and tranquil getaway located in Hong Kong. This enchanting island is a great retreat from the hustle and bustle of the city life, with its stunning mountain views, peaceful lakes, and stunning beaches. It's also home to some popular attractions like the Ngong Ping 360 cable car that takes you on a scenic ride over the island's hills, mountains and valleys.

You can also find some of Hong Kong's most iconic sights here — like Tian Tan Buddah, the world's tallest outdoor seated bronze Buddha statue. Tai O fishing village is another popular destination on the island — it’s an ancient settlement with traditional stilt houses that are almost five centuries old. 

There are so many incredible sights to explore on Lantau Island. If you're looking for breathtaking views, the Ngong Ping 360 cable car ride is a must-see. The 25-minute journey offers up vistas of rolling hills, lush green forests and deep blue seas. Further up the mountain, visitors can hike to the Tian Tan 'Big Buddha,' an iconic 116-foot bronze Buddha statue perched atop a hill overlooking the South China Sea and Lantau Peak.

At Po Lin Monastery nearby, guests can find peaceful respite in one of Hong Kong's most important Buddhist sanctuaries. Established in 1906, it's home to numerous statues of different deity figures as well as a revered 26 meter tall bronze statue of seated Guanyin Bodhisattva — Buddhism's Goddess of Mercy.

Of course, don't forget about Tai O fishing village—a charming hamlet renowned for its stilt houses constructed atop the water on bamboo poles. Visitors can explore narrow alleyways lined with seafood restaurants and pick up souvenirs at local shops. It's also a great place to appreciate Hong Kong's unique culture and lifestyle by tasting some of its distinct delicacies like salted fish and shrimp paste!

The island is beautiful all year round, but the months from October to February are generally considered the best time to visit. In this period, you'll get the chance to enjoy spectacularly clear skies, full of bright stars and a good mix of sunshine and mild weather.

The mild temperatures during these months make it ideal for sightseeing and outdoor activities, such as biking or hiking around the trails. Being surrounded by nature will give you an amazing chance to reconnect with yourself and appreciate its natural beauty. The cooler temperatures also create a great atmosphere for enjoying a relaxing stroll among its many attractions.

The summer months (June-August) tend to be warm and humid but still provide plenty of wonderful activities, from shopping at local markets, visiting temples, wandering around walking trails and having fun at popular tourist spots like Ngong Ping.
