Highlights of Cuarto Real De Santo Domingo

The qubba in the building is the only thing that has been preserved. The entry to it is through a magnificent arch. On the other hand, the room is square in shape with dimension of 7m on each side. The entry to the room is marked by a saying in Kufic characters and quotations from the Quran. The saying translates into “God is unique.”  This room was also known as the Royal Room. The wooden dome here attracts is truly beautiful.

Cuardo Real de Santo Domingo used to be a place which came under royal ownership. It was constructed during the reign of Muhammad II. It also owes it resemblance to the Moorish architecture. Aixa belonged to the Nasrid dynasty of Granada. She was the queen at the time when after a conquest, she had to surrender this building to the Catholic Monarchs. Later on, it got converted into a convent. It has been joined to the Convento de Santa Cruz la Real which has been marked as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.

Ever since then, the building has gone by numerous renovations. Alterations have been made as per the changing trends in the world. The cube (qubba) remains preserved well. However, major things have been refurnished. Regardless of all the changes this place has gone through, it still holds great historical as well as architectural significance.

This famous watchtower in Granada is 27m high. It is also known as the Candle tower. When the Catholic Monarchs took over the town of Granada, they brought a bell along with themselves. This bell was called La Vela. This bell was hung here so as to remember their victory whenever the bell chimed.

  • Alhambra

The Alhambra is a palace of the Nasrid dynasty in Granada, Spain. This charming castle gets its name from its reddish walls. It got declared as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1984. The palace appears to be golden when the rays of then sun strike its walls and towers.
