The city of Santorini, with its cultural and commercial centre situated right on the edge of the famed Caldera, is one of the island's most significant tourist destinations. You can travel to the city's picturesque harbour of Ormos by cable car and then depart for the volcano from there.

The summer months (June to August), when the weather is pleasant and bright, are when most tourists travel to Fira, Santorini. But this is also a time when the island can be congested. Consider travelling during the shoulder seasons of spring (April to May) or autumn (September to October) for a more laid-back experience and smaller crowds. During these months, the weather is still great, and you'll have a better chance of enjoying the sights without a lot of people around.
