The Alamgir Sahib, one of the most important Sikh religious temples, is located in the Alamgir hamlet and is a major tourist destination in Ludhiana. This is the location where the tenth Sikh guru, Guru Govind Singh, discharged an arrow into the ground and created a spring of water (Tirsar). It is popularly known as Gurudwara Shri Manji Sahib in commemoration of the guru. The spring, which was eventually transformed into a lake, is supposed to relieve pain and illness. The gurdwara is also known for its largest langar (Community Hall), which serves free meals to hundreds of tourists. The lush foliage surrounding it completes the picture and makes it a popular destination for both devotees and tourists. In this article we will discover why this has become a must visited tourist destination.
When Guru Sahib arrived, one of the village's horse vendors, Bhai Nigahia Singh, presented him with a horse. The bed was returned to Nabi Khan and Gani Khan. Guru Sahib asked an elderly lady gathering cow dung whether he could get some water from anywhere to take a bath, and the old lady answered, "Pir Ji, this is a ruin, there is no water here." There is a well far away, but it is guarded by a large python, so no one goes there. The python fell into the well when Guru Sahib Ji struck it with an arrow and granted it "Mukti" (exemption from further transmigration). When the Sikhs went to gather water, the water had gone bad so near to where Guru Sahib was sitting that Guru Sahib struck one more arrow and a water spring sprang out, and all the Sikhs bathed. When she saw this miracle, the old lady knelt at the feet of Guru Sahib and said, "Peer Ji, you are a wonderful Peer, I have a request." I have leprosy and have been to several places for treatment, but it has not been cured. Please cure my sickness and assist me in getting rid of it. Guru Sahib stated that whomever bathes in this water spring with faith will be healed of all his sorrows. Then Guru Ji mounted the horse entrusted to him by Bhai Nigahia Singh and rode towards Raikot. The old lady was cured after taking a bath in that water spring. She returned to the village and told everyone the whole thing. The location where Bhai Nabi Khan and Bhai Gani Khan housed Guru Sahib's bed is now a lovely Gurudwara known as Manji Sahib.
