summary

The Hidimba Devi Temple, often referred to as the Dhungri temple, is a venerated Hindu temple that is nestled in the snow-covered hills of Manali. The Hindu demon-goddess Hidimbi is the subject of the cave temple. One of the five Pandava brothers who serve as the focal point of the epic Mahabharata, Bhima, was married to Hidimbi. The temple, which Maharaja Bahadur Singh constructed in 1553 CE, is situated around a prehistoric cave where Hidimbi Devi is said to have meditated. The building is situated atop a sizable rock protrusion that protrudes out of the ground and is surrounded by Dhungri Van Vihar, a rich cedar forest at the base of the Himalayas. Prior to the construction of the Temple, this protrusion was first regarded as the deity. The unusual design of the Hidimba Temple, which is unlike any other temple in the area, reflects the particular personality of its patron goddess. The Temple's architecture conveys special tales about the location's folkloric beginnings with its wooden entrances, ceramic-like walls, and three conical roofs coated in wood. In the Hindu community, the Hidimba Devi Temple is of utmost religious and cultural importance. This is clear when large crowds congregate outside the temple for significant occasions like Navratri in order to see the Goddess.
