Korigad Fort is situated around 20 km south of Lonavala and is at an elevation of 929 metres above sea level.
Architecture: The Korigad Fort is an excellent example of Maratha architecture. The fort's architecture is simple yet sturdy, with two walls built around it to keep intruders out. The fort additionally includes a number of temples and other structures. It features two main entrances, the Ganesh Darwaja and the Hanuman Darwaja, as well as several structures, one of which is a temple devoted to Lord Shiva.
Trekking: Korigad Fort is a popular trekking site, with the trail leading up to the fort being moderately difficult. The trek takes approximately 2-3 hrs, and the views from the top are breathtaking, making it a perfect weekend getaway for adventure lovers.
History: The Maratha kingdom constructed Korigad Fort in the 17th century, giving it a long and interesting history. It served as an important position during the Mughal-Maratha wars, and several battles were fought there. As it served as an important military base to protect the commerce route connecting Pune and Mumbai, the fort was essential to the Maratha empire's success. The British conquered it in 1818 and eventually abandoned it.
Panoramas: The fort is situated on a hill, providing spectacular panoramas of the surrounding area. Mulshi Lake, a major tourist destination in the area, is also visible from the fort.
