Meera Temple

The Meera Temple is a beautiful temple located in Chittorgarh, a city in the state of Rajasthan in India. It is dedicated to Meera Bai, a well-known Hindu mystic and poetess who was a devotee of Lord Krishna. The temple is a popular pilgrimage site for followers of Meera Bai and Lord Krishna.

The Meera Temple is believed to be built in the 15th century by Maharana Kumbha of Mewar. Over the years, the temple had undergone different renovations and reconstructions. The temple is surrounded by several other temples and historical monuments, including the Chittorgarh Fort, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

You can also see a large statue of Mirabai inside the temple, as well as other artefacts related to her life and teachings. The temple is an important pilgrimage site for devotees of Mirabai, who come from all over India to pay their respects and offer prayers.

The Meera Temple was designed in the ancient Nagara architectural style, which is popular throughout the northern region of India. The Meera Temple is compact yet elegant. It comprises an entrance porch, accompanied by a modest hall.

The Shikhara is situated above the Garba Griha and is crowned by the Kalasha. The Shikhara is made up of three layers of Shikharas or Urushringas. Mirabai paintings and paintings of her adored Krishna may be viewed inside the shrine.

A monument representing five human bodies and one head is sculpted on the exterior of the Meera Bai temple to symbolize the concept that people of all castes and creeds are the same and have no differences exist among them

It displays compassion. The footprints of Raidas, Meera Bai's guru, may also be seen on the temple's exterior at a place called a Chhatri.

The temple has a lovely figure of Lord Krishna, meanwhile, the Kumbha Shyam Temple houses a black-coloured monument of God Garud.

During Meera Mahotsav, when a significant number of devotees visit the shrine to offer their prayers, the temple arranges unique festivities.

The temple provides a spiritual atmosphere that brings peace to visitor’s thoughts. It is a major religious and historical place in Chittorgarh.

If you're flying, the nearest airport to the temple is the Udaipur airport, from where you can take any local transportation option to the Meera Bai temple. The Chittorgarh railway station is the nearest railway station to the temple, from which cabs and buses can take visitors to the temple area.

The Meera Temple is open to visitors all year. The best time to come, however, is during the Janmashtami festival, which honours the birth of Lord Krishna, because the temple is magnificently decorated during this time. If it's not feasible during Janmashtami, you can plan a trip to Chittorgarh between September and March when the weather is ideal for tourism.
