summary

The Mughal Gardens of Delhi, a breathtaking piece of lush green beauty located in India's presidential residence, are a sight to behold for visitors to the Indian capital. Mughal gardens are popular destinations for travellers from all over the world because of their lush green plantations, lovely wild flowers, and immaculately trimmed grass.

The Mughal gardens of Delhi are situated in Rashtrapati Bhavan, the Indian President's residence, and are frequently referred to as the "soul of the Presidential palace." As you wander the Rashtrapati Bhavan as a tourist, you will see the magnificent Gardens.

The Mughal Gardens of Kashmir and Agra are credited with inspiring the design of the Gardens as a whole. Additionally, there are hints that the finest Persian paintings may have served as inspiration for the building. The majority of the Indian capital's architecture is credited to Sir Edwin Lutyens, who served as the project's lead architect. In 1917, he was responsible for planning the Mughal Gardens' plantation placement.

The estate was eventually settled, but it took some time. All of the garden's plantings had been completed to perfection by 1929. Another partner of Sir Lutyens in the creation of the Mughal gardens was William Mustoe, the director of Horticulture at the time. Sir Mustoe is credited with fusing two separate horticultural cultures and practises making it one of the most intricate yet beautiful gardens that humans have ever created.

Highlights of Mughal Gardens

The enormously varied range of plants and trees in the Mughal Gardens are without a doubt its true highlights. No other government building in India, and perhaps the entire globe, has a garden that hosts such exotic plant types with such finesse.

1. Plant Types - There are 60 to 101 different varieties of bougainvillaeas produced in the gardens, which cover a large 15 acres. Even the specific variety of doob grass that covers every plant species seen in the Mughal gardens is cultivated widely in Calcutta and the areas nearby. The evidence suggests that the grass used in these gardens was originally imported from Calcutta.

2. Distinctive Trees - Over 50 different shrubs, vines, and trees can be found here. These trees are dispersed throughout Delhi's magnificent Mughal Gardens. The Moulsiri tree, flower-bearing torch tree, and Golden rain tree are some of the most beautiful and exotic trees in the area.

3. Bird's Eye View - From the first floor of Rashtrapati Bhavan, where visitors can see the three-story style of the garden in detail, the true grandeur of the gardens is only visible. The first is a long, circular building, followed by a rectangular garden. Visitors can take in views of the distinctive collections of plants, trees, and herbs that are found around each of these buildings.
