Raghunath Temple

The main god of Kullu is Raghunath Ji, and the Raghunath Temple is one of the most well-known tourist attractions there. The temple is devoted to Lord Rama, also known by the name Raghunath. It is one of Himachal Pradesh's oldest temples still standing.

On a hillside, there is a high-rise temple that offers stunning valley views to guests. The temple's grounds are very large. It completely encircles the hillock's summit. Raja Jagat Singh constructed the temple in the 17th century. It combines Himachali and pyramidal architectural styles.

In restitution for all the misdeeds he has committed throughout his life, Raja Jagat Singh constructed this temple. According to legend, Lord Rama is said to have employed the Raghunath statue in this temple during the Ashwemedha Yaga. The idol has been installed here after being transported from Ayodhya.

There are seven shrines at the Raghunath temple. Raghunath, who is Rama by another name, is the focus of the complex of temples. A Surya symbol, another incarnation of Vishnu, may be seen near the entryway. It has an octagonal shape and is constructed over a raised platform that is 5 feet (1.5 m) high. The main shrine is located 50 feet (15 m) from the entry, while the front fascia is 40 feet (12 m) wide. There are residences and open cow yards on the eastern and northern sides of the yard's fenced-in area. Three entry doors are located on the temple's front façade.

A circumambulatory route (pradakshina path) measuring 10 feet (3.0 m) in width surrounds the main shrine, which measures 20 feet (6.1 m) by 20 feet (6.1 m) in size. The entrance door, which is located on one side of this shrine's octagonal chamber, faces east. The inner chamber's interior is gold-plated. The outer chamber's main walls are composed of 15 panels, each measuring 9 feet (2.7 m) in height. These inner panels are covered in an abundance of Jammu School paintings that show scenes from the Hindu epics Ramayana, Mahabharata, and Bhagavad Gita. These gods include Ganesha, Krishna, and Sheshashayi Vishnu (reclining Vishnu), as well as a sizable picture of the Sita Swayamvara scenario.

The greatest time to visit Kullu is during the summer, from March to June. Visit Kullu during the winter to take part in the celebrations around the Raghunath shrine. Winter is the greatest time to travel if you want to experience more adventure and see snowfall. Monsoons must be completely avoided, though, as there is a likelihood of landslides and it is dangerous to go to Kullu during this time.
