Mangan is its district headquarters. It is the seventh least congested district in the country. It is the largest of all the four districts in Sikkim. What are the ways by which I can go to visit North Sikkim?

You can go to visit North Sikkim by flights, trains or by road. This amazing place is easily accessible from all the major cities and towns in India. Even though there is an airport at Pakyong, it cannot be used for leisure trips. The nearest airport to Sikkim is the Bagdogra airport near Siliguri. From there, one can take the roads to cross the state. You can go by your own cars, or hire one. There are public transport like buses which commute daily to and from Gangtok. There are taxis for hire as well. If you choose to take the mode of public transportation, you would need to get down at Gangtok and go by some other way, as for most of the transports the last stop is Gangtok. You can also reach North Sikkim by trains. The nearest railway station is NJP or the New Jalpaiguri Railway Station which is situated in Siliguri. From there you can commute by road. There is another rail station at Jalpaiguri, but it would take a bit more time and is also a bit far. People coming from states outside of West Bengal and the outskirts of Bihar, should most definitely take the airways as it is the fastest and easiest.

What is the best time to one can choose to go to North Sikkim?

The weather in North Sikkim is welcoming throughout the year by maintaining a cold temperature. Tourists tend to avoid visiting the place in the winter season because the weather can be quite cold and uncomfortable. During the months of July to September, rainfall makes North Sikkim even more beautiful but incessant showers can put restrictions on  all outdoor activities and you will be unable to visit the famous places, falls and parks freely. North Sikkim is a wonder in all the seasons. People go there during summers mostly to avoid the heat back at their own hometown. During the months of December to March, you will be able to experience snowfall there, which makes the place even more beautiful. The temperature there is always cool which is welcoming.
