Located in Hassan District in the city of Karnataka and full of cardamom and cafe, pepper and areca plantations, Sakleshpur is a picturesque hill resort with a scene, a nice climate, and high, lush green hills. The Chalukyas, Hoysalas and the Kings of Mysore ruled the region. A shiva lingam found in this town had been destroyed and called Shakaleshwara during the reign of the Hoysalas. From then on, Sakaleshwara has been renamed by the towns. The town was renamed "Sakala aishwarya galinda pura," according to a different legend.

Sakleshpur's economy is renowned for being surrounded by an unusual number of coffee, tea and spice plantations.
