The trek to Roopkund starts from Loharjung, the high-altitude area in Uttarakhand which stays at 16,499 feet. This trek merges with a religious feeling when the pilgrimage center of Nanda Devi arrives.
The Roopkund Lake, also known as Mystery Lake, is immersed in skeletons.

The Roopkund glacier crosses through thick forests and waters ranging from streams to lakes.
One can reach the location by air from the Pantnagar airport located 32 km from Kathgodam. If one is traveling by train, there are trains from Delhi to Kathgodam.
One can also travel by road by boarding from Delhi ISBT.

Itinerary For Roopkund skeleton lake trek uttarakhand

Day 1 - Kathgodam to Lohajung

Lohajung

Everyone reaches Kathgodam by boarding The Ranikhet Express.
Then comes a drive through curvy pathways which takes everyone to Loharjung.

Day 2 - Lohajung to Didina

Didina

The journey to Didina is through the iron bridge over the Neel Ganga river.
There are two routes to reach the location, one through Lushes and the other via Wan.
The former route is more scenic than the second.
The climb takes one and a half hours to reach Didina.

Day 3 - Didina to Ali bugyal

On this day too, there will be two routes to reach the location.
The first route is from Tolpani which is an inhabitant area and the second route is the direct ascent from Didina.
It is better to reach Ali bugyal after noon to get the views in full swing.
One will have the opportunity to climb the Chang Ma peak which is covered in snow.

Day 4 - Ali bugyal to Ghora Lotani

This is an easy trek day comprised of A 3km walk.
This day is also meant for acclimatization at Ghora Lotani.

Day 5 - Ghora Latni to Bhagwabasa

Bhagbawasa

One reaches an altitude of 14,500 feet by starting early morning to Bhagwabasa.
The Kalu Vinayak mountain will be surpassed today.
There will be a descent of 2 km to Kalu Vinayak.

Day 6 - Bhagwabasa to Roopkund lake

The trekking starts at 5 in the morning and lasts for 3 and a half hours to reach Roopkund.
By trekking again for half an hour one reaches Junargil.
After that, as early as possible, one reaches Bedni Bugyal.

Day 7 - Bedni bugyal to wan and then to Lohajung

Lohajung

The journey from Bedni bugyal to Wan is through simple pathways. There can also be chances of visiting Trishul Peak if the weather is favorable.
The descent to Lohajung takes 6-7 hours through Rhododendron forests and crossing the Neel Ganga River.

Day 8 - Lohajung to Kathgodam

Kathgodam

This is a free day at Roopkund and everyone continues the journey back home
