How to Reach

By Air

➔ The nearest airport is Srinagar. From there, you have to hire a taxi to Aru.

By Train/Bus

➔ Another option is to travel by train to Jammu, from where you can go to Srinagar by bus or shared taxi. There are few buses from Jammu that leave at set times. However, it's simple to hail a shared taxi. Around 10 to 12 hours are needed to travel from Jammu to Srinagar.

Itinerary For Tarsar Marsar Trek from srinagar

Day 1 - Drive from Srinagar to Aru

  • Start your journey in the morning with our driver.
  • Meet with your trekmates and start driving
  • It is 100 km so you will reach it by late evening.
  • Reach campsite.
  • Do all the check in formalities and stay overnight.

Day 2 - Trek from Aru to Lidderwat

  • On Day 2 your trek starts.
  • This trek will be of 10 km and it will be completed in 6 hours.
  • Enjoy the most amazing scenic beauty during this trek.
  • Reach Campsite and stay overnight.

Day 3 - Trek from Lidderwat to Shekwas

  • Wake up early to witness the mesmerizing morning beauty.
  • Have your breakfast and start your trek.
  • Today your trek will be 5 km long and it will take around 3-4 hours.
  • You have a river crossing just before Homwas followed by a gradual ascent.
  • Reach the campsite and have your quality time.
  • Overnight stay.

Day 4 - Trek from Shekwas to Tarsar

  • After breakfast, start your 5 km trek.
  • Continuous ascent, mostly on gentle slopes to cross the ridge and enter Tarsar's meadows.
  • Enjoy the experience and beauty of nature.
  • Overnight stay.

Day 5 - Trek from Tarsar to Sundersar via Tarsar Pass

  • Today you will trek another 5 km. after breakfast.
  • During this trek you will witness the tarsar lake from another side of the trek.
  • This will be the perfect spot to stay overnight and put up your tents for the night.
  • Enjoy stargazing at night because you are at 4000 m.

Day 6 - Trek from Sundersar to Homwas via Marsar

  • We walk around Sundersar, crossing a saddle on a ridge on the distant side of the lake.
  •  It's an hour's walk to Marsar from here.
  •  The trail leads to a viewpoint that offers you unmatched views of Marsar Lake, which is nearly always shrouded in mist and clouds.
  •  At this altitude, the weather is erratic and quickly turns bad. 
  • So, we leave Sundersar and head back towards Zachmargi after taking in the beauty of the lake and its surroundings.
  • Rather than traversing the Tarsar Pass to get to Sekhwas from here, we hike for two to three hours to get to the Homwas campsite.
  •  Shut down for the evening.

Day 7 - Homwas to Aru

  • We leave the Homwas campsite today and travel the same path we used to start the hike in order to get to Aru via Lidderwat. 
  • You will reach Lidderwat after two hours of descent from Homwas, where you can now take in all the breathtaking vistas that you had previously been unable to see on this trail. 
  • After traveling through Lidderwat's pine forests, we take a short break there before starting the four-hour journey back to Aru.
  •  By 1600 hours, you should expect to arrive in Aru, where our cars will be waiting to take you to Srinagar. 
  • Anticipate arriving in Srinagar by 19:00.
