Adalaj Stepwell

located in the village called Adalaj a few kilometers away from the main city is this five-story stepwell that is decorated with intricate carvings of cultural significance from the historical ages. It was commissioned by Queen Rani Roopba, the wife of Veer Singh, a Vaghela chieftain, in the 15th century. It was believed to have been constructed to preserve water to save up for the dry seasons. The interior has octagonal landings decorated with pillars and arches along with chambers and galleries on the side and a series of steps from the sides leading down to the water.

 

Statue of Unity

located in Kevadia is the statue of Unity standing at a colossal height of 597 ft is the tallest statue in the world of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel who was the first Home Affairs Minister and the First Deputy Prime Minister of the Indian Government post-Independence. He was also called the Iron Man of India and the statue is made of bronze cladding on an iron frame. There is a viewing gallery and museum here that houses the achievements of Patel.

 

Gujarat Science City

is a complete science-themed educational complex that features the Hall of Science that has numerous interactive exhibits on physics, chemistry, biology, mathematics, and technology. IMAX 3D theatre here regularly puts up educational films on science, nature, and space and provides an immersive cinematic experience, bringing scientific concepts and natural wonders to life. Models on sustainable energy, ecology, and biodiversity as well as geology are found here in Life Science Park among others.

 

Sabarmati Ashram

This is the single most important place that offers a glimpse into the life and works of Mahatma Gandhi and helps the tourist understand his philosophy of truth and non-violence. Situated on the banks of the Sabarmati River it provides the most peaceful environment to reflect and admire the serenity of the surroundings. The complex consists of the Hriday Kunj which is the cottage where Gandhi lived, Gandhi Smarak Sangrahalaya which is a museum showcasing his teachings, Vinoba-Mira Kutir, and a prayer hall. Along the walk path are various quotes from Mahatma Gandhi.

 

Jhulta Minar

It is a part of the Sidi Bashir Mosque complex, which was built in the 15th century during the reign of Sultan Ahmed Shah. Its remnants are the two minarets that are also called Shaking minarets named so because when one minaret is pushed or shaken, the other minaret starts to shake in response, despite being separated by approximately 1.2 meters which is a testament to the skills and scientific knowledge of the craftsmen of that century, that baffles visitors time and time again.

 

Hutheesing Jain Temple

Built by Sheth Hutheesing in 1848, the temple was built as a tribute to his 16th-century predecessor, Seth Kesarimal Hutheesing. The temple is made entirely of white marble and is a blend of traditional Gujarat and Rajasthan styles, with elements of the Solanki style of architecture. The main dome of the temple is adorned with an elaborate sculpture of Lord Dharmanath and is decorated with scenes from the Jain mythology with smaller shrines dedicated to the Tirthankaras.

 

Calico Museum of Textiles

It was established in 1949 by the industrialist Gautam Sarabhai and his sister Gira Sarabhai. It hosts a sizable collection of textiles that represent Indian textile art and expertise throughout several centuries. It displays textiles from many parts of India, including vintage and rare items, traditional fabrics, garments, tapestries, embroidery, and textiles with artistic, historical, and cultural significance. It has a dedicated team of researchers and conservationists who work to study and preserve the textiles in the collection.

 

Lothal

It is an ancient archaeological site belonging to the Indus Valley Civilization dating 4500 years back. It is situated on the banks of the Bhogavo River in modern-day Ahmedabad. Extensive excavations have been conducted at Lothal, uncovering numerous artifacts and structures that provide insights into the life and culture of the people of the civilization. It is believed to be one of the earliest known ports in the world, that served as a hub for maritime connectivity and transportation.
