The closest airport is Chennai Airport at a distance of 140 km from Auroville. The Puducherry Railway Station is at a distance of 14 km. You can avail cab or auto service from the railway station to reach Auroville. By Flight- There is no airport located in Auroville nor does it have an airport of its own and same goes with Pondicherry. Auroville has a lot of options when it comes to commuting within the city. Auroville is visited by a lot of foreigners throughout the year and is a chilled out place.As tourism is increasing, a lot of commuting options are available for renting vehicles on a daily basis. Two wheelers like scooty or bike cost around 200-250 Rs per day, while four wheelers depending upon choice will cost around 1000-1200 per day. The timings for hiring vehicles are fixed from 9am-9pm. This is convenient, certainly the most appropriate option given as we all know that Auroville is a small town and it is very easy to get acquainted with its roadmap. If you don't want to rent any vehicle you also have other options which include share auto rickshaws that just cost you about 5 to 10 Rs per ride and buses that ply quite frequently in the town.
