Some of the most significant art museums in the city are located in the Kunstareal neighborhood of Munich. The Alte Pinakothek, Neue Pinakothek, and Pinakothek der Moderne are the three primary museums of the Kunstareal.
A collection of paintings from the 14th to the 18th century can be seen at the Alte Pinakothek, one of the oldest art museums in the world. European artworks from the 19th century are on display at the Neue Pinakothek, a museum of 19th-century art. Modern art is featured in the Pinakothek der Moderne, a museum of 20th-century art.
The Bayerisches Nationalmuseum, which holds Bavarian art and cultural history, and the Staatliche Antikensammlungen, which has one of the largest collections of ancient Greek art, are also included in the Kunstareal in addition to these three major institutions.
