summary

Clarke Quay is named after Andrew Clarke, Singapore's second governor. Clarke Quay was previously an important trading port, and after the port was relocated, the Quay was totally refurbished to become the major entertainment hub that it is today.

Clarke Quay's renovation in 2003 was handled by the British architectural firm Alsop Architects. The company was given two development stages to redesign the riverfront dining spaces, streetscapes, and shophouse facades. A significant social and touristic component of the Singapore brand, the recently renovated Clarke Quay typically draws over 2 million people annually. A key factor in its success is the clever control of the microclimate achieved through the construction of complex shading and cooling systems, which lower the ambient temperature by 4 degrees Celsius while enriching the riverside and streets with incredible visual attraction. Both the Cityscape Asia Awards for Best Waterfront Development in 2008 and the 2007 Cityscape Architectural Review Award (Tourism, Travel & Transport - Built) went to the project.

Various restaurants and nightclubs are currently housed in five blocks of renovated warehouses. Floating bars and restaurants have been converted from moored Chinese junks (called tongkangs). The Cannery is one of the building's major tenants. One block contains more than five distinct notions. Singapore's First Permanent Illusion Show, starring J. C. Sum and "Magic Babe" Ning, will be staged at The Arena, another key tenant, beginning in August 2008.[5] The entryway, which opened in November 2003, houses the G-MAX reverse bungee, the country's first.

Hooters and Indochine are a few of well-known eateries and nightclubs. Accessible from Clarke Quay are river cruises and river taxis on the Singapore River.

It entailed a complete refurbishment of the area's infrastructure as well as the addition of entertainment and services geared towards the urban youth. Famous brands in the clubbing sector, such as Attica and London's Ministry of Sound, were invited in to improve the nightlife in this area by providing them with 24-hour operating licences.

Restaurants and cafes take up about 60% of the space on Clarke Quay, providing guests with an incredible variety of cuisines to explore.

This region features the most lively nightclubs and the best parties in Singapore, thanks to an eclectic mix of local and foreign players. To mention a few, the most popular nightclubs in town include Zouk, Canvas, Crazy Elephant, Attica, and The

Pump Room. The Reverse Bungee at G-Max is one of the most exhilarating experiences in Clarke Quay.

It is one of the most popular attractions among adrenaline enthusiasts. As you are flung up and down in the air, your speed might reach 200 km/h. The trick is to keep your eyes open while you're up there.
