Eravikulam National Park, originally known as the Rajamalai Wildlife Sanctuary, was first managed as a game reserve. Eravikulam National Park has a very broad range of fauna. There are about 20 distinct orchid species, 132 different bird species, 19 different amphibian species, 26 different mammalian species, and a total of 101 different butterfly species in this area. The Nilgiri langur, the Atlas moth, the Nilgiri marten, the small-clawed otter, the Lion-tailed macaque, and a rare form of the leopard and lion are the prominent species that can be spotted here.

A tranquil scene surrounded by rich tea plantations can be found at Mattupetty Dam, which is close to the national park. The reservoir is a great place for boating, and visitors may also take leisurely walks along the dam to take in the beautiful scenery.
