Fort San Domingo, was established in 1628 in Spanish at the hilltop of Tamsui river. Later it was torn sown by them as they were expelled by the Dutch in 1642. Around 1744, the Dutch had rebuilt the fort and renamed it Fort Antonio. It is a cube-shaped building, which is 15.25 meters from all four sides while 13 meters tall. The fort has thick wall, deep foundation and effective view. Its a place where you will see many historical buildings.
It's also a good spot for taking pictures. A good side trip in Tamsui. A good place learning about history, trade and European colonization.
The fort was built on top of hill therefore it gives the best views of the nearby areas including the ships and boats. Tourists coming hereby find it a perfect place for capturing pictures and its an ideal place for viewpoint. Providing people river view and greenery surrounding.
Museum inside the fort is also a plus point for the tourists. There are many buses that will take you to the hill. In order to visit all buildings inside the fort try to come on tuesday , wednesday and thursday when most of the buildings are open. There are many cafes inside the fort. As the fort is located on the hill, so the tourists prefer to take bus from Tamsui then from there a short walk up to the hill to the fort. The fort is around 20-25 minutes walk away. Doing climbing to reach the hill is also a memorable experience for the visitors. Many cultural trips takes place there , which you can enjoy.
