Gurudwara Pathar Sahib

Highlights of Gurudwara Pathar Sahib

This place of worship has been built in memory of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the first Guru of the Sikhs. It is considered to be a place bearing immense importance in the life of Guru Nanak Dev. He used to travel from place to place and spread his teachings about the oneness of the Almighty. While carrying this divine message to the common men and promoting it, it was here that he encountered a demonic presence named Jaldira. He intended to harm Guru Ji and attacked him with a gigantic rock. Miraculously, the rock hurled at him was put to a halt the moment it touched Guru Nanak. It did not cause him any harm and the rock had an imprint on his back. This served as proof of the celestial and sublime powers that he possessed.

Festivals like Guru Purab are celebrated with the utmost grandiosity. Celebrations are organised on such a massive scale. Devotees come to worship this holy place and offer their prayers. Kirtans are sung with great vigour and devotion. People of the gurdwara organise community meals and feed them to anyone who comes to their doorstep. Others volunteer to prepare meals and serve them.

The special feature about gurudwaras is that they allow people practising different religions and faiths to enter inside and praise the Lord. Anybody can visit this place regardless of the religion they belong to. This is to promote the idea of equality and the existence of one God.

Ladakh is all about the scenic beauty it has to offer and the beautiful panoramic views of the mountains. The sight of the heavenly Himalayas and a cup of tea in the cool winters is the best. The Gurudwara is situated in the centre of such a marvellous place and that’s another reason people love to come here.
