summary

Famous seaside Varkala Cliff is a vast collection of ancient rock formations. In the past few years, Varkala has prospered and is climbing the popularity ladder with incredible speed. The relaxed town is located about 40 kilometres from Thiruvananthapuram, the state of Kerala's capital. With its growing appeal, Varkala Cliff is now posing a threat to the jovial hippy hotspots of India like Goa and Gokarna.

It has some enormous rock formations, hillsides, warm beaches, undiscovered ruins, forts, sequestered lighthouses, and serene lakes. Varkala Cliff's distinctive quality is that it resembles a dramatic horizon that is fusing with the Arabian Sea. The Varkala Formation is another name given to the cliffs by the Indian Geological Survey. The coastal stretch saw a massive expansion and was previously known as Udayamarthandapuram, named after the monarch of Travancore.

Moreover, it is frequently referred to as Southern Varanasi because to the 2000-year-old Janardhan Swami Temple that is located next to the Varkala cliff. The beaches that sunbathers adore the most are those like Papanasam, Varkala, and Odayam. You can also take a tour of some magnificent buildings, such the adjacent Janardhan Swami Temple and Anjengo fort.

Highlights of Varkala Cliff

Varkala Beach: The quaint village of Varkala is around 10 kilometres from the well-known Varkala beach. It creates a panorama of sedimentary cliff formations that engage the Arabian Sea's ebb and flow in warfare. Papanasam Beach is another name for Varkala Beach.

Sivagiri Mutt is a spiritual centre that aids thousands of believers each year. It is spread out over 200 acres of land on a plateau covered in blooming Neelakurinji. The sanctum's founder and Sree Narayana Guru's samadhi are both located in the Mutt.

Thiruvambadi Beach: In the Varkala cliff radius, Thiruvambadi Beach is one of the less-visited beaches. Just 3 kilometres separate the main town of Varkala from the black sand beach.

Besides Thiruvambadi beach on the Varkala cliff, Edava Beach is another out-of-the-way site. Visitors are rewarded with a view of a backwater that parallels the ocean and is dotted with tall palm trees.
