Bhrigu Lake and Beas Kund Trek 2024 Overview

Manali is set on the Beas River, located at an altitude of about 2,050 m, in Himachal Pradesh. This trek takes you to the source of the river - Beas Kund. Located at an altitude of 3893 m, deep in the Himalayas. The trek starts at Solang Valley, the slopes for which are especially popular amongst ski enthusiasts. 

If you are searching for some exciting adventure, then this is the perfect trek for you. This wonderful trek takes you through mountain valleys, rivers and streams, rocks and boulders and across high altitude bridges, adding to the thrill of the experience. As is with all experiences of trekking in Himachal, it is believed that this region has an infamous way of making you fall in love. 

You will be staying in tents overnight at camps, on multiple sharing bases. If you are looking to get away from the hustle-bustle of your daily lives, this is the answer you were searching for.

As a growing hotspot for tourists, Manali is well connected by all modes of travel, whether it be by train, by bus or by car. To reach Manali, you can take a bus from Delhi, which takes about 12 hours to reach. If you want to cut down on travel time, you can also take a flight to the Bhuntar airport, only 10 km away from Manali. You also have the option of reaching Manali by car, but the road can get slightly precarious, and the journey a bit long, though picturesque.

Itinerary For Bhrigu Lake and Beas Kund Trek 2024

1

Day 1 - Trek from Solang to Dhundi | 4 hours

Dhundi

  • We will start the trek early in the morning after a gratifying breakfast to Dhundi, located at an altitude of 3149 m.
  • The trek will take us through towering fir trees and dense oak and walnut forests. Enjoy the fresh forest fragrance and the silence pervading the woods, except for the occasional bird and the sound of your footsteps.
  • The trek is around 8 km long and the terrain a soft, gradual incline. 
  • Upon reaching, set up camp in Dhundi and relax. After a delicious dinner, you can retire to your tent for the night.

Day 2 - Trek from Dhundi to Bakarthach, via Beas Kund | 8-10 hours

Bakarthach

  • Rise with the sun to enjoy the magnificent vista of the mountains right in front of you change hues. After breakfast, we start the first leg of the trek, to Beas Kund.
  • Throughout the trek, the breathtaking vista of the snow-capped never leaves you alone. You can recognize Deo Tibba and Indrasan clearly.
  • After trekking for a while you reach Beas Kund. The lake is the source of the river Beas and is surrounded by a seemingly endless expanse of grassland.
  • After taking a rest here, we continue on our trek to Bakarthach, perched at a height of 3270 m. This leg of the trek is another 6 km long and will take 4-5 hours. 
  • The trek is a gradual incline that gets steeper in parts. On this leg of the trek, we will trek through rocks and boulders in the summers, and through the snow during the winters.
  • Upon reaching, take in the splendid vista as we take a break here. After a while, we start the trek back to Dhundi, around 5 km away. 
  • Upon reaching the campsite, refresh yourself and grab a delicious dinner before heading to your tent!

Day 3 - Trek from Dhundi to Solang Valley

Solang Valley

  • Start the day early to enjoy the radiant sunrise. After a satisfying breakfast, we start the descend to Solang Valley, located at a height of 2560 m.
  • The descent will take up to 4 hours at a comfortable pace. 
  • Upon reaching, enjoy exploring the surrounding areas and take it easy.
  • Enjoy a delicious dinner next to a cosy campfire before retiring to your tent for the night.

Day 4 - Drive from Solang to Kolang Nalah, trek to Mori Thach | 5 hours trek

Kolang Nalah

  • Wake up early to bask in the glow of the beautiful sunset. After breakfast, start the drive to Kolang Nalah. Enjoy the scenic drive as it takes some steep bends, up the meandering road surrounded by the valley.
  • After reaching Kolang Valley, take in the magnificent vista as you prepare for the trek to Mori Thach. The exciting trek will take you across 2 Himalayan streams - Chor Nalah and Kohli Nalah. It is a soft incline throughout.
  • After crossing the wooden Nalah Wooden high altitude bridge, you will reach the splendid campsite. The Mori Thach campsite is surrounded by mountains on three sides, and open into the valley on the fourth side, with a stream running through it.
  •  Upon reaching, relax and have your delectable dinner and then its lights out!

Day 5 - Trek from Mori Thach to Bhrigu Lake and back | 9 hours

Mori

  • Wake with the mesmerizing sunrise and enjoy your breakfast. From Mori Thach, located at a height of 3657 m, we start the climb to Bhrigu Lake.
  • Bhrigu Lake, perched at an altitude of 4300 m, presents a splendid vista of the snow-capped Himalayas! Feast your eyes on the emerald waters of the lake as you enjoy your lakeside lunch.
  • After a while, we start the descent to Mori Thach campsite. The trek is around 12 km long and maintains a soft incline/decline throughout.

Day 6 - Return to Manali

Manali

  • After a delectable breakfast, we start the drive back to Manali, as your journey with us comes to an end.
  • Take your time exploring the city at your leisure and visit famous sites like the Vashisht Hot Water Springs and others.

Is the Beas Kund and Bhrigu Lake Trek difficult?

This is a relatively easy trek in the Himalayas and is considered one of the best treks for a first-time Himalayan trek. The distances travelled within a day vary from 6 km to a maximum of 12 km, which is manageable for a person of average fitness. The gradient of the trek is also relatively easy throughout. However, to fully enjoy the experience, it would be advised to follow a fitness regime for at least 2 weeks prior to the trek.
 
 

What is the best time for the trek?

The best time for the Beas Kund and Bhrigu Lake Trek is either between April-May or in the winters, between October and early December, depending upon your preference. If you wish to see snow, winters are the best time, however, spring season showcases wonderful Alpine flora.

What is the fitness requirement for this trek?

You need to be in optimum physical condition to enjoy any trek. You should be able to ideally jog 4.5 km in 30 minutes, to make your lungs strong enough to bear the high altitudes.
