Dzo Jongo Trek Highlights

  • This peak is considered as a hidden gem which is not visited by many people.
  • The peak will not be visible until one reaches the base village of Leh and it goes till the beautiful valleys of Markha valley.
  • In the first few days, one will be exploring the trek. 
  • There are some peaks hidden inside the valley which are taller than Stok Kangri.
  • The trekking is not technical but it is steep and challenging.
  • The peak is situated ahead of Markha valley and there are a lot of routes to reach this destination and one is from Lato side. 
  • There are two summits to this trek, one being steep and enduring.
  • One will get  a lot of views during this summit. The perfect trek is about 6000-er and it is not advised to  everyone. 

Dzo Jongo Trek Overview

The maximum altitude of this peak is 20,500 FT and it stays in the difficulty range of trekking. The duration of this trek is 9 days and it covers 41kms in 9 days. 
The trek is suitable for people who are above the age of 15+ years. One will cover a 6 kms distance in 30 minutes without being stressed. The trail is a round one. Heading from Leh airport, one will go to the base camp of Base camp at Leh.

The best season to carry on this trek is monsoon and autumn which involves months from July to August and from September to November. Snow can be expected throughout the year except september and October.

Pickup and drop off services are available from Leh to Leh. Veg and Non veg Meals are included in the trek. Stay will be in a camp mode involving twin sharing.

Itinerary For Dzo Jongo Trek

Day 1 - Arrival Leh

Leh

  • The altitude is 3500 metres and 11,500 feet. Network and ATM is available in this region.
  • Stay will be in a hotel and the briefing of the trek happens at 5pm.
  • Trek gear is available in Leh but one has to take it for rent.
  • Everyone should bring ID proof and 2 Photographs and foreigners should bring their passport.
  • No one is advised to visit the high altitude and smoke or use alcohol.

Day 2 - Acclimatisation day

  • This day is meant to get familiar with the climate and the environment.
  • The stay will be in a hotel and one will visit prominent monasteries and some peaks on this day. 
  • This day, one can visit the Leh palace and some buddhist monasteries.
  • One can also explore the Leh market on this day and come back to the hotel to take rest.

Day 3 - Leh to lato

  • The altitude is 4000 metres and 13,200 feet and the total distance is 70 kms covered in 2 hours.
  • The stay is in a tent.After reaching Lato, one will spend their time in acclimatisation and after that there will be a lot of old monasteries to visit.

Day 4 - Lato to shiul sumdo

  • The altitude is 4600 metres and one reaches at an altitude of 15,00 feet.
  • Today one will experience a little bit of ascent and river crossing. Hot lunch and refill will be provided in the tent.
  • The real trekking begins on this day and it takes 4 hours to ascend and cross the river.
  • The hike will be at a moderate pace and the resting for this night will be in a tent.

Day 5 - Shiul sumdo to Chaksung

Shiul

  • Today is a moderate ascend and there will be lunch and snacks given on the way.
  • The trek is for 10 kms and it takes 7 hours to cover an altitude of 16,00 feet.
  • The shiul pass arrives today and one will witness the Ladakh range and Karakoram range on this day. 
  • One will reach the campsite by lunchtime and after 1-2 hours there starts the himalayan trek.

Day 6 - Chaksung to Dzo Jongo

Dzo Jongo

  • One will reach at an altitude of 17,100 feetIt will take 5 hours to cover 5 kms.
  • Sacks and lunch will be provided on this day. 
  • This day is filled with a lot of adventure because the terrain gets a lot of steep on this day.
  • Weather gets unpredictable here and one will get the views Kang yatse range.
  • From the bse of the camp one will get markha valley views .

Day 7 - Rest day and training day

  • One will get the technical equipment today and start training with that.
  • This day is meant to get ready for the summit.
  • The journey starts from 10 pm and reaches the peak to get the sunset view.

Day 8 - Summit and back to base camp

  • One will reach the base camp at 11 AM and the breakfast will be packed.
  • The altitude achieved on this day is 20,500 feet in 11 hours. 
  • The climb for this day is long and hectic; it seems the steepest among all.
  • The first 20-30 minutes involve walking and after that the trail gets steeper and heavier. 
  • There will be crevasses on the way and the summit gets completed by 5 -6 AM.
  • The rest point gets steeper and one will reach the base amp back for lunch.

Day 9 - Base camp to Chokdo

  • The altitude one gets here is 17,100 feet it will take 8 hours to complete a trek of 14 kms.
  • One will start descending on this day and there will be a return drive to Leh by covering 60 kms.

Day 10 - Buffer day

  • The day is used when something happens in between the journey.
  • Buffer day costs 30,000 rupees per day.
  • The buffer day can be used for rafting, mountain biking, motorcycle tour, Khardung,trip to pang lake,zip line or for other sightseeing purposes.
