By Air 

➔ To reach Gangotri Trek by air, the nearest airport is Jolly Grant Airport in Dehradun, approximately 250 kilometers away.

➔ From the airport, you can hire a taxi or take a bus to reach Gangotri via Rishikesh and Uttarkashi. The journey offers scenic views of the Himalayas and takes around 8-10 hours.

By Road

➔ To reach Gangotri Trek by road, you can start from major cities like Haridwar or Rishikesh in Uttarakhand.

➔ The road journey takes you through picturesque routes and usually involves a 10-12 hour drive to reach Gangotri. Private taxis, shared cabs, and state-run buses are available options for the road trip.

By Train

Day 1 - Haridwar to Uttarkashi

  • Upon arrival in Uttarkashi, you'll embark on a sightseeing program, visiting notable attractions such as the Nehru Mountaineering Institute. Enjoy an overnight stay in a comfortable hotel.

Day 2 - Uttarkashi to Gangotri

Gangotri

  • Rise early for a 90-kilometer drive from Uttarkashi to Gangotri, a place of immense religious importance and the starting point of your trek. 
  • Gangotri is believed to be the abode of Goddess Ganga. Situated on the banks of the holy Bhagirathi River, it is one of Uttarakhand's 'Char Dham' pilgrimage destinations. Spend the night in a tourist lodge.

Day 3 - Gangotri to Bhojbasa

Bhojbasa

  • Rise early for a 90-kilometer drive from Uttarkashi to Gangotri, a place of immense religious importance and the starting point of your trek.

Day 4 - Bhojbasa to Tapovan

Tapovan

  • After witnessing a splendid sunrise, prepare for an uphill climb to Tapovan, covering a distance of 10 kilometers. 
  • To reach Tapovan, you'll need to cross Gaumukh, the source of the Ganges. The terrain here is rocky, demanding caution with every step. 
  • The awe-inspiring Gangotri glacier and the imposing Mt. Shivling will humble you. Cross from the right bank of the glacier to the left and continue climbing through the glacier moraine to reach Tapovan, a base camp for ardent trekkers heading to Mt. Shivling. 
  • The view from Tapovan is truly exhilarating, especially the Bhagirathi Peaks. Spend the night in tents.

Day 5 - Tapovan to Chirbasa

Chirbasa

  • Embark on a 14-kilometer downhill trek from Tapovan, which is less strenuous. 
  • Your return journey takes a different route, leading you to Chirbasa via Bhojbasa. 
  • Enjoy your last night in a camp.

Day 6 - Chirbasa to Uttarkashi via Gangotri

Uttarkashi

  • Trek 9 kilometers from Chirbasa downhill to Gangotri. 
  • Upon reaching Gangotri, embark on a drive to Uttarkashi, where you'll spend the night in a comfortable resort.

Day 7 - Uttarkshi to Haridwar

Haridwar

  • Bid farewell to the enchanting Gangotri Gaumukh trek as you're driven to Rishikesh/Haridwar in the morning, marking the end of this remarkable journey filled with breathtaking landscapes and spiritual experiences.
