Zanskar River Trek Overview

Leh acts as the starting point, for an adventure – the Zanskar Chadar Trek. This trek provides an opportunity to walk on ice, which's quite rare in the world of trekking. It takes place in Ladakh, a region where nature has crafted a landscape with shades of black, white, grey and blue.
As winter envelops Ladakh the Zanskar River freezes into a blanket of ice as it winds through canyons. This freezing process gives it the name "Chadar," meaning blanket. It signifies the beginning of an adventure one of the challenging treks involving temperatures dropping to 25 to 35 degrees Celsius.
Nestled amidst towering snow capped peaks Zanskar is an enchanting place in Jammu and Kashmir. Heavy snowfall during winter closes off access to the valleys roads leaving the river as the passage.
The Zanskar Chadar Trek reveals a plethora of awe inspiring sights such as waterfalls, the picturesque Nyerak Village and deep gorges. Along this journey you'll even have opportunities to sleep in caves alongside the river.
This 9 day tour spanning 8 nights takes you to an elevation of 3680 meters above sea level. The temperature ranges from 10 to 0 degrees Celsius. Occasionally drops down further to, 25 to 30 degrees Celsius.

Day 1 - Zanskar River Trek

Begin your thrilling adventure, on the Zanskar Chadar Trek. Start by arriving in the town of Leh.
Climb, aboard our vehicle.
To ensure an enjoyable trekking experience it's essential to acclimatize. That's why this day is dedicated to acclimatization.

Day 2 - Day 2

Zanskar

After having breakfast you can embark on a drive, through scenery.
Marvel at the beauty of the Indus River. Later witness the meeting point of the Zanskar River at Nimoo.
Follow the path alongside the Zanskar River until you reach Tilat Do, which serves as a starting point, for your journey. Once you arrive there cross the Zanskar River. Depending on your schedule either set up camp on the side or continue a little further before finding a suitable camping spot.

Day 3 - Day 3

Begin your day at 7am by enjoying a steaming cup of tea. Treat yourself to a breakfast. Then head towards Chadar, which will be your route, for the rest of the trek.
Depending on the fitness levels of everyone in the group we will embark on a trek spanning 10 12 kilometers.
Our final destination for the day will be Shingra. If conditions become too challenging we can set up camp earlier. Please keep in mind that the schedule, for any given day is flexible and can be adjusted according to the fitness level of the group.
We will spend the night in trekking tents.

Day 4 - Day 4

Start your day by having breakfast. Then head towards Tibb Cave.
Navigate through the gorges of the Zanskar valley with towering cliffs, on both sides.
Be prepared for a trail with a level of trekking.
Your goal for the day is to reach a cave that is often used by locals when traveling through this valley.
You will spend the night in trekking tents.

Day 5 - Day 5

Start your day by enjoying a breakfast. Then head towards a trail that winds through beautiful gorges leading to the enchanting Nyerak Village.
During your journey you will come across a waterfall that flows vigorously during the warmer months. This breathtaking sight is also a stopping point, for rafting trips, down the Zanskar River in August and September.
Set up your camping tents below the Nyerak Village. As evening approaches take some time to explore this village and immerse yourself in its unique atmosphere.
You will spend the night in trekking tents surrounded by natures tranquility.

Day 6 - Day 6

After having breakfast begin your journey back.
Make sure to be prepared for any changes, in the trail as the river tends to change based on temperature and sunlight.
Find a spot, at Tibb Cave to set up camp.

Day 7 - Day 7

Today marks the stretch of your Zanskar Chadar Trek adventure as you make your way back, to Tilat Do.
Cross the expanse of the Zanskar River one time and then hop into your vehicles for a transfer, to Leh. Once you arrive settle into your hotel.
You'll be spending the night at the hotel giving you a chance to unwind and rejuvenate.
