There are so many popular myths and romantic legends amongst the visitors. Dona Paula was the lady-in-waiting of the Governor-General's wife and this is it . The Governor fell in love with Dona and when his infuriated wife found out about the affair, she commanded that Dona should be stripped, bound and fell over the cliff into the sea to wear only the string of pearls that the Governor had gifted her.

Local fishermen can enthrall you with marvelous ghost stories to relate to this interesting incident. Some state that Dona's ghost appears on moonlit nights while others say that the ghost appears at nights. The spirit had seemed to rise from the sea at midnight wearing nothing but the necklace.

From only 7 kilometers away from Panjim, Dona Paula Beach is an easily discoverable place. To meet with the point of the Zuari and Mandovi rivers, this beach is presenting the secluded sight for the tourists to spend moments. This beach's sand is shimmering adorned with stretches of lush green palm trees creating a picturesque view.

This beach is well known as the popular name of the Lovers Paradise. There are so many legends associated with this name. One of the popular legends is that Dona Paula de Menzes, daughter of one of India's viceroy, had jumped off the cliff when she did not have the right to marry a local fisherman. There are other legendary people as well which offer a different story of the place and the name.

Over there the popular attractions are the Cabo Raj Bhavan which is the official residence of the authority of Governor, Goa. Over there the National Oceanography Institute is an another place worth to visit. The Marine Biology Museum and the Taxonomy Reference Center are the major attractions in that place. The famous Statues of philosopher Robert Knox and his adorable wife. This was made by a Dutch sculptress, Baroness Yrse Von Leistner, also adding on to the overall charm of this place.

Including swimming , there are many other water activities as well, which you can try once out here at this beach. Some of these are Kayaking, motorboat riding, windsurfing, parasailing, water-skiing, toboggan ski-biscuit, yachting, skibob, sports fishing, snorkeling and harpoon fishing. From here you also get an amazing view of the Mormugao harbor.

Highlights of Dona Paula Beach

You can also shop in the local knick-knacks at the beachside stalls while enjoying delicious seafoods at the local restaurants when the sun starts to set on Dona Paula View Point. Please note that if you want to witness the sunset over there just  try to reach the viewpoint half an hour earlier then plan as it only has space for 50 people.

Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary:

The sanctuary is basically situated on the Western tip of the Island alongside the Mandovi River, around 9 kilometers away from Dona Paula. 

Reis Magos Church: 

It is around 10 kilometres away from the Dona Paula beach lies this famous church which is basically  dedicated to the three wise men of the East who brought the baby Jesus Christ gifts of frankincense, gold and Myrrh.

Ruins of the Cabo de Rama Fort: 

The Cabo Fort was discovered in 1540. This is a 180-year-old cemetery with the memorial tomb of Dona Paula de Menezes in it.

National Oceanography Institute: 

This institute had opened in the 1960 for studying local Goan marine life. The ancient Marine Biology Museum and Taxonomy Reference Centre in this Institute which has attracted travellers from all around the globe.
