Markha valley trek is a popular trek in Ladakh that passes through beautiful villages in the deep valley surrounded by towering mountains. Markha Valley is a valley crammed between the Stok Kangri range to the north and the Zanskar peaks to the south. It is an amazing trip to get introduced to the magical and remote Buddhist kingdom of Ladakh. You can learn about the rich indigenous culture of the Indo- Tibetans. The authentic Markha trek begins from Spituk via Ganda La, Zingchen, and finally ends at Skiu, which is a small isolated village with houses of an old monastery and ruins of an old castle that was once a resting place for an ancient royal family. From Shiu, the way leads to Markha and hence to Shang Sumdo through Kongmaru La.
This is a place where you can expect accommodations in parachute tents or homestays in the nearby villages. You will encounter various villages throughout the trail, at least one village after every 2-4 hours. The shortest trek starts from Chilling village and ends at Shang Sumdo village. It is a reasonably straightforward trek with many villages on the way, different landscapes, and the odd tea house tents are the standout amongst the most mainstream treks in Markha Valley. If you are lucky enough, then you can even encounter a Himalayan snow leopard in the valley. You can witness other species of animals of the Himalayan belt like lynx, Ladakhi Urial (a type of goat), Arghali (great Tibetan sheep), blue sheep, Marmot, Dhole (wild dog), etc. You can discover various birds of the region as well.

The Markha Valley trek is something to experience once in life time .I can only recommend this trek and the valley to discover it and it is very easy to trek . food provided was so tasty😋.
Two days of the Markha Valley trekking were spent for acclimatization. Although it is really boring, it was very crucial for a hale and healthy trek ahead. During this particular time, we visited unravel monasteries, the museum, some forts, and the local marketplace. We also got to visit the Leh Palace, which was gigantic. After this, we crossed over Ganda La which was 4800 m, and arrived at the beautiful Markha Village
Markha Valley is one of the most beautiful places I have visited in my life. The best time to go there is during the May-July period. There are a lot of fun things to do like hiking, skiing, mountaineering, etc. and I'm glad I kind of tried everything while there. Great place, Great trek and I loved the entire experience!

Markha Valley is an amazing place. Crowned in Ladakh this is one place that enables you to enjoy the most and I loved the trekking in this region. Great place, thank God I had my friends with me who ensured that no matter how difficult the trek get, we will finally conquer it. And hell yeah we did it!!!
This is supposedly a rather sought-after trek in the Ladakh region. Gandala La (4800 m) & Kongmaru La (5150 m) are the two peaks that you will cross during this trek, and the relief with this trek is that these are a feast to our eyes as there are stunning sights from the peak.
If I have to describe this trek in one word, I will say 'wow'. Really, one of its own kind, we started from Leh and also got enough time to explore Leh. Zingchen, Rumbak Village, the monasteries, GandaLa, Shingo Village, Markha Valley, etc. were the best parts of this awesome trek.
The highlight was a 6-day trek through the Valley. Thoroughly fun but challenging as well. What made it all worth it was the view from the Markha Valley pass on the second-to-last final day. Awesome! Simply breath-taking! Our group of four couldn’t have made it without the guide and the crew. They were really helpful throughout. Each meal was sumptuous, well-prepared, and a welcome break. such a nice trip.
It was so amazing and so challenging trekking for me, the fast-blowing winds made me shiver sometimes but the zeal inside me to cross beautiful mountains kept me going forward. and visit this place once.
