The Al Baleed Archeological Park is one of the component of land of Frankincense. The six most important highlights of this UNESCO site are:

  1. Remains of Grand Mosque at Al Baleed - It is also known as Al Baleed Mosque and located on the Western side of the archeological site. The remains of the mosque are impressive. It is an excellent example of the elegant local architecture with a total cover of 1700 sq mtrs. The largest area is the main Prayer hall. Its roof features 144 columns distributed in13 rows.
  2. Ruins of Al Baleed Fort : In the extreme west end, a few meters away from the mosque, The ruling Sultan's palace with the remarkable ruins are located. The largest heap of masonry in the archeological park are the remains.Ruins of the City wall
  3. The Lagoon at the Park: It divides the main park with the car parking place through a small bridge. Bird watching is main attraction of this lagoon. Visitors can also do a boat ride in this lagoon to view the coconut farms.
  4. The Museum of the Frankincense Land: This is the only museum in Salalah located in the eastern side of the park. The museum hosts historical and archaeological heritage of Dhofar. The models of Omani boats from 3000 BC to current years are also displayed.
  5. Bird Watching: In the eastern end of the park a tower is made for bird watching. The entrance is accessed from the restaurant. A very nice view can be experienced from the watch tower.
