Highlights of Dakshinachitra

Madras Craft Foundation, which was established in 1984 by a woman by the name of Deborah Thiagarajan, was the driving force behind Dakshinachitra. The goal of Dakshinachitra was to create a heritage hamlet that would showcase South Indian culture. When Deborah Thiagarajan made her first trip to Chennai in 1970, the story of Dakshinachitra officially began.

Her motivation was to protect South India's cultural legacy. Dakshinachitra was able to get 10 acres of land in 1991 to establish the historic village. The government, the Madras Craft Foundation, and numerous businesses all provided various forms of assistance.

The Prakriti Foundation, the National Folklore Support Center, the Office of the Development Commissioner for Handicrafts, the Ford Foundation, Amethyst, and numerous other organizations are among the many lifetime sponsors of Dakshinachitra.

Best time to visit Dakshinachitra

There is no particular ideal time to visit Tamil Nadu's Dakshinachitra Museum. The lovely history village that has been created to preserve the long-standing artisanship and culture of the area is open to visitors throughout the entire year.

You can visit Tamil Nadu between the months of October and February, though, if you want to get the most out of your trip. Tamil Nadu's summers and rainy season are not ideal due to the sweltering heat and frequent downpours.
