Pilgrims from outside Saudi Arabia must get a visa before travelling. Jeddah's King Abdulaziz International Airport provides service to Mecca. You may then take a cab or shuttle to Mecca. Both men and women must dress modestly, and women's hair must be covered.

The best time to visit is during the Islamic month of Dhu al-Hijjah, which comes in August or September. If you want to avoid crowds, visit during the off-season, which runs from January to May. Mecca gets extremely high temperatures during the summer months, so it may be more comfortable to visit during the winter weather of November to February.
