The Temple of the Emerald Buddha, also known as Wat Phra Kaew, is a Buddhist temple located in the historic center of Bangkok, Thailand. The temple complex is considered one of the most sacred sites in Thailand and is a popular tourist attraction.
The temple houses the Emerald Buddha, a highly revered and iconic symbol of Thai Buddhism. The statue is a 14th-century sculpture made of green jadeite and is believed to have originated in India before finding its way to Thailand.
The temple complex also includes several other buildings and structures, including the Royal Pantheon and the Golden Chedi. Visitors can explore the grounds and admire the intricate artwork and architecture, which feature intricate carvings, colorful murals, and ornate decorations.
As a sacred site, visitors to the Temple of the Emerald Buddha are expected to dress modestly and behave respectfully. Shoes must be removed before entering any of the buildings, and photography is generally not allowed inside the chapels where the Emerald Buddha statue is located.
Due to its religious and cultural significance, the temple is typically crowded and bustling with activity, especially during local festivals and holidays. Despite the crowds, however, visiting Wat Phra Kaew is a must for anyone interested in Thai Buddhism and history.

The temple is 237 years old.
It was kept there until Setthathirat I, king of Chiang Mai and Laos, moved the statue to his capital, Vientiane (now in Laos), in 1560. There he built a majestic temple to house it.
The temple was completed in 1783 under the patronage of King Rama I to enshrine the Emerald Buddha (Phra Kaew) for which it was named. Wat Phra Kaew is not a singular building; instead, it refers to a temple complex that includes a variety of structures.
