Musée De L'armée

The Musée de l'Armée, located in Paris, France, is a military history museum that showcases the history of the French Army from the Middle Ages to the present day. The museum is housed in the Hôtel National des Invalides, a complex of buildings originally constructed as a hospital and retirement home for war veterans in the 17th century.

The museum's collections include weapons, armor, uniforms, medals, and artwork related to military history, as well as exhibits on the two world wars, the French colonial period, and other significant historical events. One of the most popular exhibits is the tomb of Napoleon Bonaparte, located within the museum's chapel.

1. Musée des Plans-Reliefs

The relief maps on show here were found in the 17th century and represent a scale representation of the city of Dunkirk. The Ministry of Culture presently oversees the location. It provides around 28 separate collections of fortified town relief maps. These relief maps were all created between the years 1668 and 1875.

2. The Invalides

The Invalides is a group of structures in Paris, France's 7th arrondissement. It was originally built in the 17th century as a hospital and retirement home for wounded and disabled soldiers and has since been expanded to include several museums and monuments.

The centerpiece of the Invalides is the Église du Dôme, a stunning domed church that contains the tomb of Napoleon Bonaparte. The church is one of the most iconic landmarks in Paris and is a popular destination for tourists and locals alike.

In addition to the Église du Dôme, the Invalides complex also houses several museums, including the Musée de l'Armée, which showcases the history of the French Army, and the Musée des Plans-Reliefs, which contains a collection of historic military models.

3. Main Courtyard and artillery collections

The vast and extensive collection of weaponry and massive sculpture is on exhibit in the center of the museum. The four museum buildings surround the 102-meter-long courtyard, which is a stunning example of 17th-century classical architecture. A memory trail of the many military regiments participating in key conflicts in French history may be found in the courtyard's top gallery. Several wonderful historical artifacts may be seen in the open courtyard, including a 60-class cannon that depicts the 20-year history of France's land artillery.

4. Charles de Gaulle

This area is solely devoted to the key members of Free France and is intended for interactive multimedia. Despite the absence of physical things, the audio-visual playing here tells Charles de Gaulle's voyage through archival film and images. Over 400 audio-visual documents totaling 20 hours of information are available.

Early in the morning and late at night are the ideal times to visit the museum. The museum would be nearly completely empty in the early morning hours, giving you plenty of time to examine the exhibits. Although the location will be packed and most popular in the evenings, such times are nevertheless suggested for a visit to enjoy the architectural grandeur and have an evening stroll.
