The Ghanchakkar plateau is a rugged landscape with breathtaking mountains. The Ghanchakkar plateau,amidst Maharashtra's Sahyadri mountain ranges, is the third highest peak in the Sahyadri mountain range's Western Ghats. At 1532 metres, it stands majestically, guarding two small villages as well as the flora and fauna ( 5,026 ft).
The mountain is usually climbed from one of two base villages. Shirpunje village is located on the northern side of the range, 22 kilometres (14 miles) from Rajur. The peak of Ghanchakkar can be reached in about 2.5 hours if you start from this village. Climbers also use Kumshet village, which is about 33 kilometres (108,000 feet) from Rajur, as a base.
