Raigad Fort, nestled in Maharashtra's Raigad district, is a historic hill fortress, located around 125 km from Pune.
It was the capital of Chhatrapati Shivaji in 1674 when he was crowned the King of a Marathi kingdom.
Perched at an elevation of 1350 meters (4530 feet) within the Sahyadri Mountain range, the fort showcases structures like the Queen's Quarters, Public Durbar, Watch Towers, Gateways, and temples, although many are now in ruins.
Notably, it's a significant historical site with a rich legacy tied to Chhatrapati Shivaji's reign.

The old name of Raigad Fort was "Rairi" before it was renamed as "Raigad" by Chhatrapati Shivaji when he made it the capital of his Maratha Empire.
Raigad Fort is known for its approximately 1737 stone steps that lead to the top. These steps are a prominent feature of the fort, and climbing them is part of the adventure for visitors who want to explore this historical site.
There’s no direct flight or train for Pune to Raigad. The most preferable is to travel from taxi.
