Kedarnath Yatra is one of the most important pilgrimages in Uttarakhand known for being spiritually meaningful as well as beautiful. The devout Hindu pilgrims travel from the holy city of Haridwar where they head towards the sacred Kedarnath Temple which is devoted to Lord Shiva who is one of the 12 Jyotirlingas as per the Hindu literature. Taking place at an elevation of more than three and a half thousand meters above sea level in the Garhwal mountains of the Himalayas, this yatra tests both one’s faith and physical strength as it demands hiking across ruggedly difficult highlands. During summer people come to the temple and undertake pilgrimages in search of spiritual freedom. The Kedarnath pilgrimage is a life changing experience as it takes participants closer to nature and God. This is a significant religious or cultural occasion in India.
