This trek has multiple starting points, allowing you to choose the best one according to your preference. To get to the summit, you will have to trek for around 4 to 5 hours, and to descend, it will take around 3 to 4 hours. The duration of this trek depends upon your pace and physical health.
You will have to complete this entire trek in one day, from the start point to Triund Top and back to the start point, so make sure you start your trek early and try to complete trekking before the sun sets. The total distance between Mcleodganj and Triund is 9 kilometres. You can get to Mcleodganj from Dharamshala which is just 5 km away. Dharamshala is very well connected to major Indian cities like Chandigarh and Delhi. One of the easiest and most affordable ways to reach Mcleodganj is by local transport operating from Dharamshala or you can also take a taxi. After arriving in Mcleodganj, head towards Galu Devi Temple to start the Triund Trek. The entire route from Dharamshala to Mcleodganj is well-maintained and perfect for a comfortable journey. Embark on this amazing trek from Mcleodganj and soak in the scenic views of the surroundings.
Nestled in the foothills of the Dhauladhar range, Dharamkot is a peaceful town that serves as the starting point of Triund Trek. This small village is just a few km walk away from Mcleodganj. Triund Trek distance from Dharamkot that has to be covered is around 7 kilometres one way. This trek route is popular among trekkers looking for a shorter way and effortless hike. You can easily reach Dharamkot from Dharamshala by taxi or shared cabs. This will be a journey through Narrow and winding roads.
Bhagsunag is another village located in the foothills of the Dhauladhar range which serves as the starting point of this wonderful Triund Trek. The distance between Bhagsunag and Triund is 8-9 km. This village is easily accessible from Mcleodganj or Dharamkot by cab and the distance between these places is just 2 to 3 kilometres. This trek route is longer than other trek routes and includes some steep sections compared to other routes. With longer trek distances and moderate difficulty levels, this route offers a thrilling trek experience with spectacular views and less crowd.
Beginning from Delhi towards Triund the total distance that has to be covered is around 475 kilometres. Firstly you will get to Dharamshala From Delhi by car, bus, or train and from here you will head towards McleodGanj or Bhagsunag which is around 9 to 11 km away from Dharamshala. The trek starts from McleodGanj which itself is 9 km long. The trails of this route are well-marked and offer a peaceful trek experience. Your journey from Delhi to McLeod Ganj will take around 9 to 10 hours and after this, you will have to trek for around 4-5 hours to reach the summit.
If you begin the journey from Dharamshala, you will cover a total distance of 18 kilometres. Firstly, you need to get to the base camp of Triund Trek, Bhagsunag located 3-4 Kilometers away from Dharamshala. The trek journey will start from here and the Triund trek distance is also 8 to 9 Kilometers. This Trek route is slightly longer than other routes but offers an adventurous experience with fewer crowds.
The total distance between Triund and Chandigarh is around 250 kilometres. Firstly, You will get to Dharamshala, which would take 8 to 10 hours and then from Dharamshala you will head towards Mcleodganj. During Dharamshala to Mcleodganj road trip you will cover a 9 km distance and the Triund Trek distance from mcleodganj is also 9 km which would take 5 to 6 hours to complete depending on your speed. The conditions of the Chandigarh to Dharamshala route are great but the path becomes narrow as you get close to the hilly region. You can also take the Bhagsunag to Triund Route for a tranquil experience compared to the crowded Mcleodganj route.
The trek towards Triund Top starts from McleodGanj and the Triund trek distance from here is 9 kilometres (one way). The first half of the trek involves passing through thick forests of rhododendrons and oak, but as you move further the trek becomes difficult. The final climb towards the summit is steep but it can be managed. It is usually 4 to 5 hours to complete the trek but the duration depends on the pace and physical health. As you reach the Triund top you will get to have perfect views of Kangra Valley and the Dhauladhar range.
On day 2 you will start your return trek journey from The Top back to McleodGanj. The Triund trek distance on the return journey will be the same as the time taken while trekking up. The descent usually takes only 3 to 4 days and the return journey is quicker and easier. You can moreover visit Dharamkot or Bhagsu Waterfall to add fun to your trek.
